THE II'OUNDE) FuND.-TheI mat ter of the county funds imlpounded in the Winnsboro National Bank has at last been finally mettled, At the recent term of the circuit court an order was passed, which finally disposes of the fund. This order requires the treasurer to pay on the order of the county comlissiollers the sum of $1280,36, and on the order of the school coi missioner the sum of $4,744,01. The former sum will be applied to the ildebteducss of the county. The amount due the schools will be applied to the paymniit of the out standing teachers' certificates of the year 1874. The payments are to be lade on the order of the present school comlissioner, and we under, stand that it is his intention to call in all the certificates for audit, and thent pay out the amount pro rata. It will therefore be some little time before the fund will be actually paid to the holders of school claims. Festivities at Ridgeway. A festival was given at Ridgeway on Tuesday night last, for the benefit of the Hampton Rifle Guard, of that place. The cotton-shed attached to the railroad depot had been enclosed with bagging, and on the night of the entertainment was tastefully decorated with evergneus and flowers, and brilliantly illni nated with Chinese lantorns. The scene presented was both pleasing and attractive. Fairy-like creatures were seen on every side, flitting hero and there, importuning the impecuni ous native and stranger' to "Lake a chance" at this tiling and that, while tihe merits of tile grab bag * were fully ventilated and elaborated. iRefreshments of all kinds were dispensed by accomuodating lady .and gentleman attendants, and the * ~ avidity and rapidity with whlichl they were "gobbled uip" -showed a pr'oper applreciation of the culinar'y talents of the good matrons of the comnmu nity. Rlebecca'si Well, presided over by two charming demoiselles, was a favorite resort, and contributed nlo little towvards keeping onc's thoughts andl ideas clear .and disentangled. One poor rustic (it may or may not have been our reporter) wvas so indiscreet as -to suggest that the *contents of the wvell might have been improved by the addition of a "spike," but the suggestion was spurned g~i~th i'ndignaion1, and its author pr~omptly rebuked. WVhere there wvas so much to attract, and nothing to repel, it is difficult to draw distinctions. We willi therefore content ourselves with .saying that all the arrangements .seemod to be perfect, and wvere car ried out in a manner highly credita lio to the originators and nmanagers. 'The music, however, deserves some notice. At one end of the tempora ry hall had been erected a stage, whr efound one of Steinway's superior instruments. This, to gethler with flute and violin, formed the orchestra, and from whlich flowed enchanting strains, adding greatly to the pleasure of the occa sion, and constituting one of its prominent features.. We are pleased to add that our town wvas wvell represented at Ridgeway, especially by theO gentler sax. WVo have ever felt proud, ,and have boasted, of the fair portion of our population, and on. this gala occa sion it was excendinalyvgatfyin to -observe that the reputation of our community w as so ably sustained. We might say more on this subject, but'forbear, as "things are not as they used to be."" We congratulate our Ridgeway friends on the success of their en tertainment, and hope always to be with them on such delightful occa, sions.
