To b« Celebrated at Limestone In
Great Style.
Ib only four days from today the
biggest, grandest and most complete
celebration of the great and glorlou*
Fourth ever held in Gaffney will take
place • at Limestone Springs.
That the largest crowd ever in at
tendance on an occasion of this kind
ever held here will be present is a
foregone conclusion, as every town In
this whole section of the country 'aas
been liberly supplied with advertis
ing matter.
The grounds have been cleaned off
and the base ball field is now r being
put in shape for the competing teams,
l^aurens v«. Gaffney, and as the Laur
ens team is a good one, these will be
hotly contested games.
The Merry-Go-Round will be moved
down to the grounds on Friday, the
balloons have arrived and everything
is about ready for a great time.
Races of every kinj and all kinds
of rames. for which prizes will he
offered will consume a part of the
day, and with the base ball and sev
eral other features the day will pass
off most pleasantly.
At night, arrangements are being
made for a grand display of fireworks,
and should you miss this you will
miss one of the most beautiful dis
plays ever seen here.
Let everybody come to Limestone
and enjoy a day of pleasure and re
creation.
First Baptist Church Notes.
Dr. Simms filled his pulpit at both
services. The choir gave some good
music and there were two good con
gregations in spite of various attract
ions. Among them the eclipse of the
sun.
Dr. Simms spoke In the morning on
the “Victories of Faith” and at night
his subject was, “The Making of a
Life.”
Dr. Simms announced that on ac
count of the meeting of the Press
Association at Limestone there would
be no prayer meeting Wednesday
night.

Mr. W. H Philson, of Greer, has
moved to Gaffney and opened a lum
ber bus 5 ness at the old stand of the
Scruggs Lumber Co., corner of Fred
erick street and the old Three C.’s de !
pot street. Mr. philson will handle!
the goods of the well known Aider-

everything from a lathe to sill. Mr.
!
Philson has been here a little more
than a weeb and it is unnecessary to
add that he is impressed with the fu
ture prospects of Gaffney. His family
will follow him as soon as he can get
a house to put them in.

ries very little money nowadays,
instead, he deposits it in the bank,
gets a check book and when he has any bids
to pay, just makes out the check, signs his
name and we do the rest. Give it a trial
and see how convenient it is.

Base Ball Today and Tomorrow.
Thfre will be two good games of
base ball at the Gaffney base ball
park this afternoon and again tomor
row- afternoon between Gaffney and
the strong Spartanburg team. It is
reported that Spartanburg has been
strengthened by several good players
and the games will no doubt be good
ones. It is reported that the visitors
line-up will contain such good players
as “’"‘each’' Wilson, of the College of
Charleston, pitcher and third base,
and Hougue. until recently an out
fielder with the Spartanburg league
club. Routh. who has played two
games here, will probably pitch one
game, w-hile Smith, of the University
of South Carolina, will also be in the
line-up. Then all our old friends,
Beacham. Floyd. Lynch. Harris, etc.,
will be with us again and the game
should be red hot. A good crowd
should be on hand. Wood and Hop
per will probably do the flinging for
us with the rest of the line up as
usual. Routh. Beacham.. Wilson,
Smith and Floyd, of the visitors are
all slab artists and It is uncertain
which of these will work out the two
games for them. Lynch will catch.
The gentlemen of the South Carolina
Press association will be present to
witness the contests and the Gaffney
fans must show- them what a crowd of
ardent base ball sympathizers witness
game s in this burg.

Sabbath morning, at 10 o’clock, at
