The Spartanburg District confer ence of the Methodist church conven ed in Blncksbyrg yesterday morning and wiP be in session through Sun day. Between seventy-five and one hundred ministers and lay delegates will be in attendance. The district embraces the counties of Spartan burg, Union and Cherokee. Dr. Mark L. Carlisle, of Spartanburg, will pre side and some very important mat ters relating to the Methodist church will come up. The Boys cannot Let the Day go By Default. For two weeks "the committee" has been besieged with inquiries as to whether or not they were going to celebrate “the Glorious Fourth.” To all inquiries “the committee" has answered "no," as a part of the com mittee anticipated being up in the mountains of Western North t’aro- lina with the Press Association. But there is to be a celebration regard less of “the committee." Yesterday several young men applied to Dr. Lodge for the use of the grounds at Limestone and secured them for the celebration. Everything will be shaped up next week. The program will be arranged and announced and everything will lie done to give the ! eople a big day. One of the arguments used why Gaffney should celebrate is that it af fords the people of the town and county an opportunity to get together and have a good time. Its a good argument and we hope that every body will come to Gaffney on the Fourth and have a royaT good time. Any inquiries regarding privileges, etc., and other information wanted will be given by applying at The Led- j ger office. * THE BEST TEACHER i here is no doubt but tbat LXPKRIKNCL is the best teacher—that i-»— * teaches thoroughly so that one never forgets the lesson, hut <he often e-harg -s an awful price for tuition. It freezes while you ride. You can get on a bicycle and ride one quarter of mile and your cream is frozen, or you can freeze it and the machine not in mo tion. It seems that it is a detach ment that you can attach to any bicycle. You can use the machine as a cream freezer or delivery wagon. The inventor claims he can haul one hundred and fifty pounds without any trouble, providing the roads are good. NOTICE OF THE OPENING BOOKS ! OF SUBSCRIPTION.
