One of the most noticeable things here is the rapidity with which wo men acquire the knack of appearing thoroughly modish and up-to-date in their dress. The costume that Mts. Presents THE POWERFUL 4-ACT COMEDY DRAMA “THE BANKERS to supply leather for fashionable ac- courtements, and the tanners art has become of greater importonce than ever. In addition to the immense amount of leather used for shoes, gloves, bags, trunks, belts and innu merable small trimmings, the automo bile has immensely increased the de mand. For the fittings of the car nothing else is so satisfactory while the man who "chaufs" if not the one who rides is “all clothed in leather” with or without the fur on it. New Footwear. Never wars the dressing of a wo man’s foot of more importance than at this season when the universal us® of short skirts for all walking pur poses puts the foot so much in evi dence. Where formerly the “foot beneath the petticoat” “peeped in and out,” it is now on view all the time, and its dressing mates or mars the effect of any costume. Fancy shoes are the rule rather than the except ion if we include the useful and popu lar tan shades in this category. Odd vamps and uppers are a growing style. Even in low cut shoes one sees this wrinkle and quite as often as not the colors vary as well as the materials. The most desirable of new leathers is chrome tanned glazed kid, which is a glossy soft leather, nearly as brilliant as patent leather but with none of the latter’s tendency to split in cold or to torture the foot in warm weather. Made of goat skin the toughest hide known to the tanner the chrome tanned glazed kid is unu sually durable as well as attractive, and is made up in all the best styles of the season at the same price as other leathers. Matching Accessories. New York women are making quite a fad of matching accessories. Shoes, belt, gloves and shopping bag all in the same color, often all In exactly the same leather except the gloves which are of kid or dogskin, The easiest and most expensive way to acquire these Is to give an order for the set, but most women prefer to buy, say the shoes and match up the other things at various shops. Shoes by the way are not quite qs sharply pointed this spring and glazed leath ers are more in demand than suede or dull finishes, though in white shoes great use is to be made of con- vas the coming season. Glove wrinkles. Maize, in lovely soft tones, a mauve or Hlas more pink than last season, Copenhagen blues In all shadings and greens from Reseda to myrtle. Whites and blacks are not as much worn in contrast with costumes as formerly though of Bourse very muen used wlty blacb or white toilets. The woman who knows how to dress better than her friends at smaller cost, buys the best In gloves knowing that in the long run she not only appears to greater advantage but saves money by selecting her gloves with care. “To be well booted and well gloved is to be well dress ed” as the French say and they hnow what they are talking about in this matter surely. Shopping and Traveling Bag* Very flat and decidedly large are the fashionable shopping bags with few exceptions, and travelling hand luggage is built on a similar plan. Strange to say capacity is not sacrifi ced to this general flatness of effect, for bags great and small, are built with ingeniously contrived side gores that allow them to expand to meet de mands for ext; a space. Glazed leath ers are rather more liked than those with “buffed” or dull finishes and this choice Is a sensible one since the glazed surface shed soil and wear better than the suede finishes. Belts and Buckles. Belts of nanow leather that harmo nize the prevailing color of the cos tume or with Its trimmings are mo dish and verv many of these have metal slides or stationary ornaments of various forms. Glove kid belts made -In girdle forms and elaborate with steel and gilt studdlngs continue costly and fashionable though no longer a novelty. Buckles finished In white and In colored enamels are used both with leather and fabric belts, and elastics and metallised gimp continue popular. Cretonne belts, hats and parasols are to be a fad of the coming summer. Eleanor Frances. DITCH CLEANING SHOVEL. Iowa Man’s Improved Implement Good For Road Work. DUdies along the roadsides should ho kept clean and free from dead leaves, mud and refuse of all kinds that may collect there. USEFUL DITCH CLEANBB. be found exceedingly convenient for cleaning ditches, says the Washington Star. Cleaning a ditch with an ordi nary shovel entails almost as much work as rolling a peanut with a tooth pick. In this ditch cleaning shovel the shovel proper is rounded to correspond with the contour of the ditch, provid ing a convenient means of reaching dirt in the lower recesses of the ditch. The shovel is supported from the han dle by an adjustable angle lever, It be ing possible to tilt the blade of the shovel at any desired angle. Rural Delivery and Good Roada. The annual report of the fourth as sistant postmaster general states that at the close of the fiscal year there were 37,728 rural free deliver}’ routes served by 37,582 carriers. During the year 2,312 new routes were established and 350 discontinued, leaving a net Increase in operation of 1,902. The re port pays considerable attention to the subject of road Improvement. It Is stilted that, while ideal roads are not asked for, they still need to be proper ly drained and free from ruts and washouts. Adequate highway laws properly enforced are suggested. Wide Tire Law Note. The good roads committee of the board of supervisors of Niagara coun ty, N. Y., has reported In favor of the proposed wide tire law, which pro vides that after June 1, 1909, all wag ons carrying 1,500 pounds or more shall be equipped with tires at least three inches In width. The penalty for vio lation of the law will be from $5 to $25 for each offenae. SIMPLE WASH CURES ECZMA- Itching, Burning Skin Dteeaee Routes Without u«e of injurious Drug* Great inventors often have been praised for surrendering the secrets of their discoveries. Practically the same thing happened in the medical world In the case of Dr. Decatnr D. Dennis, the eminent sHn specialist of Chicago. Dr. Dennis, In his own office prac tice, discovered that jfere jfget&ble oil of wlntergreen, properly mixed with other simple remedies was practically a sure specific for Eczema, psoriasis, barber’s itch, salt rheum and other itching skin diseases. But the oil of wlntergreen alone was found Ineffective. It required other mild Ingredients such as glycerine and thymol compounded with the wlntergreen to produce the real eczema cure. This compounded D. D. D. Prescrip tion positively takes away the Itch at once—the Instant It Is applied to the ekln. This vegetable liquid does away with deleterious drugs so long used In an attempt to doctor the blood, whereas modern science has deter mined that eczema Is first and all the time a skin disease.
