Board of Trade get busy. All of us must get in line, and put our shoulders to the wheel. The March meeting for the Gaffney Board of Trade will convene in the city hall at 8 o’clock tonight. We do not think that we exaggerate when we state that the welfare of Gaff ney and her future prosperity de- petds in a great measure upon the success of the Gaffney Board of Trade. The Gaffney Board of Trade, by main strength and awkwardness has secured the building of a bridge across Broad river, and we think there are other things which may be X traced to the same source. We have reached a crisis In the town’s affairs. The State Press As sociation will convene here this sum mer. The meeting of this association may mean much for Gaffney. It all depends upon how we meet the asso ciation, how we entertain it, and the impression we make. There is a grand opportunity for the Gaffney Board of Trade to arrange with As sociated Press to thoroughly advert tise Gaffney, her industries, and re sources, her schools, and other un rivaled resources with which this section of South Carolina is blessed But in order to get the most out of the press association, it is absolutely necessray for the business men of Gaffney to get in line, and all put their shoulders to the wheel and re solve that we will make the meeting of the association the most success ful one the newspaper men have ever experienced. iWbile other towns and cities may be claiming the South and Wedtern railroad, there is no question hut what the road will be built Into Bostic, N. C., which is only sixteen miles from Gaffney, and the Gaffney Board of Trade will miss a golden opportunity If they do not get busy and bring the South and Western to Gaffney. Or at least if the South and Western stops at Bostic, we can build an in dependent road from Gaffney to Bos tic, N. C., the distance is only six teen miles. Certain gentlemen in Gaff ney have a charter and are organized and authorized by the terms of the Mrs. Galloway's store on East Fred erick street. The extension of this street would accommodate large number of people who live n that section of the city, and wo urge the street committee to attend to this matter at the earliest possible mo ment. • • • We understand that one of the whiskey concerns which had defraud ed the state in the days of good dis pensary stealing, has disgorged the amount of its ill-gotten gains upon demand of Col. Tom Felder. Now it strikes us that the colonel should go after the Mill Creek peopl?, as the State Is In posession of the sworn testimony of oar senior senator to the effect that these people received money from the State of South Caro lina which they were not legally en titled. • • • Be kind and courteous to those with whom you have dealings, or to those with whom you come into con- toct. It costs nothing to be polite, and gentle in your demeanor, and a kind word to your fellowman may cause him to have pleasant recollect ions of the cheery word you gave him and perhaps help him to sur- mout some. difficulty which looked impossible to overcome. It Is the po lite and courteous boy and girl whom cne meets on the street that we like best. The uncivil boy,and the haughty, distant girl will never be popular with the people who are older than they, and neither will their society be sought after by those with whom the associate. The polite and cour teous boy will make his way in the world, when- the gruff, uncivil boy with twice his mental capaicty will fail. It is also true that the girl of this line will be given. The dummy will leave town at 8 o’clock. Tickets will be on sale at the door. Revival at pairview. Rev. E. C- Brown, pastor of the Wesleyan Methodist church in this city, has secured the services of Rev. S. P. Keller, an able minister of Western North Carolina, who is do ing some excellent preaching nightly at 7:30. Everybody cordially invited to attend. Restrained. The Merchants and Planters Bank, of this city, which has on deposit several thousand dollars of the State dispensarv fund, was served with a notice this week not to pay out any of the funds belonging to this ac count until the question of jurisdict ion ag to this fund la settled by the courts. This is in accordance with Judge Pritchard’s order. Hono r Roll. The following Is the roll of honor for the sixth grade, Miss Connor teacher: Hattie Ezell, Leonora Jef feries, Julia Littlejohn, Karl Martin, Blanche White. Mrs. Nannie Lou Ezell and two daughters, Madge and Ruth, are visit ing her sister-in-law, Mrs. J. E. Ezell. They will return to Spartanburg in a few days. . ed, we wish to state that there is an old Revolutionary soldier buried at the Holmes graveyard at Rehoboth. Matt Rofferson was his name. Sever al old people around here remember him. It is said that be was very eccentric . When visiting he would never announce his departure, hut would slip off. My mother says that once while he was visiting at her father’s she and her little brother fol lowed him when he started and call ed out “Goodbye Uncle Matt, if you are gone.” and he came back and said, “I’m not gone yet.” Mrs. Elma Worthy and daughter, Louise, visited her parents, and Mrs. W. Miss Belle Bailey, our school teacher, rendered some nice music on the organ. Since we began our letter the dar kles have had a regular battle royal below here. Mr. and Mrs. Mason Garner called on Mrs. Fannie Gossett Sunday after- neon . Mrs. Gossett has been in bad health for a long time. Should any of her brother’s folks at White Plains see this, we will state for her bene fit, that she wants some of them to come to see her. Now, Mr. Editor, kindly allow us space to have a fling at the farmers and we will go. To begin with will say that we are a farmer and natur- aly we want a good price for our pro duce, but the farmers and their as sociations and unions make us tired. Farmers, fo r heaven’s (sake, don’t worb the poor women and children to death raising cotton and then stow it away and go around with your trousers hitched up with one suspen der and bagging at the knees and holler, “Hold your cotton!” A bet ter plan would be to raise more home supplies and less cotton and then the problem would be solved.
