Pondfleld, Feb. 25.—We read with pleasure the editorial on bees. I shall begin to write an article or articles which I hope may support this effort. It seems to be a difficult question to answer when asked what kind of honey plant yields the greatest amount of honey. With perhaps the single exception of white clover, the basswood or linden, as it is often called, furnishes more honey than any other plant or tree known. It is true that It does not yield honey every season, but what plant does? It oc casionally gives us such an immense flood of honey that we can afford to wait a season or two if need be, rather than depend on sources that yield more regularly, yet in much smaller amounts. If a bee-keeper wishes to be a helpfnl factor in the progress that is to come in bee cul ture, and Is content to wait say ten or fifteen years for the realization of his hopes, it will pay him to plant basswood. If yon know of a tree that was set out, say ten or fifteen years ago, look what a profusion of blos soms it Is now furnishing, almost every year, and from the way the bees work on it one can be safe In saying that it is producing a great amount of honey.
