The following are press notices concerning the Commonwealth La dles’ Orchestra which Is to give a concert in the Star Theatre tonig'nt: “Before the largest and most select audience that has graced Assembly Theatre this season the opening grand concert of the Harrisonburg Star Course by the Commonwealth Ladies’ Orcnestra, of Boston, proved to be a most thoroughly artistic and enjoyable affair. Ashton Lewis, the conductor, Is a genius, and every member of the orchestra a star. The program was exceptionally well bal anced and from start to finish each number was rendered In a faultless and most pleasant manner. "The orchestra come direct from New York- City, and though their baggage was lost in transit, and the members had to appear In their traveling suits, this unpleasant fea ture was a handicap o^v In so far as stage appearance Is coi.'^rned. "Harrisonburg lovers of mil.' ire high In their praise of the orchestra and of Mr. W. L- Radcliffe. by whose instrumentality the attraction was brought here. “Mr. Radcliffe will go back to Richmond now with his character istic smile considerably broadened by the excellent first number that he treated the public to last night. A good start off means dollars to the management. Mr. Radcliffe is an old Harlsonhurger and we like to see him come and hate to see him leave. "Well, the Star course entertainers delivered the goods, even if they did leave their baggage elsewhere.” —Harrisonburg, Va., "Dally Times.” “A splendid audience at Assembly Hall last night greeted the Common wealth Ladles’ Orchestra, for the ini tial enntertainment of the Radcliffe star course. Handicapped by the non-arrival of baggage, music and traps, the orchestra nevertheless ren dered a delightful program in artistic style. The ensemble was excellent, while the solo work in each Instance won enthusiastic applause. The lim pid soprano voice of Miss Evange line Hiltj: contributed several delight ful numbers. Instrumental soloists were Nellie May Horne (cornet), Ol ga Severlana (cello), and Conductor Ashton Lewis (violin). “The mellow trombone of Charlotte M. Gary and the flute obligato of Ad dle E. Moore contributed much to the enjoyment of several of the num bers. "Held up to the standard of the Initial attraction, the star course this winter will provide entertainment of a high order.”—Harrisonburg, Va., “Daily News.’ Resolutions of Respect. The following resolutions have been adopted by the Buford Street Metho dist church, and by the quarterly con ference; Whereas, our Heavenly Father has seen fit, In His divine providence, to remove from our midst our highly esteemed brother, co-worker and fellow citizen, Hon. W. F. McArthur, therefore be it resolved, 1st. That in his death not only our church, but the community at large and the State, have lost a worthy and valuable Christian gentleman. 2nd. That we, with his family, bow in humble submission to His will, who Is too merciful to afflict willingly, and too wise to err. 3rd. That we extend our sympa thies to his bereaved family, with a prayer that they may be sustained in this, their dark hour of affliction. 4th.
