Cherokee Is coming out In every thing except good roads, and we will be glad to see the time when we can travel with ease. Mr. S. Quinn, of Gaffney, met the farmers at Evergreen last Friday to get up members to organize a Farm ers’ Union. They met Monday night and organized, and we hope they will meet with success In their undertak ing. Mr. John Raines has sold his store to Messrs. Ralph and RAfe LeMaster. of Wllklnsvllle. We have not learn ed what Mr. Raines has decided to do. but we tblnk he Is going out West. Our prayer meeting was largely at tended last Saturday night. Mr. Hus key gave us a good talk on the sub ject of returning good for evil. Our pastor was present and he also gave a splendid tall?, which was enjoyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Parker spent, last Saturday with thefr son. Mr. R. R. Parker, of Gaffney, who has a very sick child. They returned home Sun day afternoon. Rev. E. G. Ross filled his anpofnt- ments here last Saturday and Sunday. He read the church covenant, Sunday morning just before 1# began his ser mon. There was one addition to the church by letter. He preached his farewell sermon at Ross Grove last Sunday afternoon. Our .ibbath school is still increasing It was well attended last Sunday. Our pastor gave a snlendid talk to the scholars. There will be prayer meeting next Saturday night at half past, seven o’clock. “Man” will be the subject and we hone there will be a large congregation out, If the weather is agreeable. Messrs. Henry Sellers, Grady Har mon and Ben Hammett, of Wllkins- ville, attended religious services here last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Phillips spent last Sunday afternoon with Mr. ana Mrs. Ellphus Harmon, or Ararat, whose child had the misfortune of falling out of a wagon and fracturing Its skull. He Is doing very well, hut there is little hopes of his recovery. Rev. Sam Zimmerman, of Clifton, was a visitor here last Sunday. Mr. S. Quinn and sons, Reid and George, of Gaffney, attended services here last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Whelchel and family, of Pondfleld. visited Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Whelchel here last Sun day. Mr. Ed. Whelchel, of CHffsldes, N. C., visited relatives here Saturday night. Some young gentlemen went to the teachers’ examination last Friday with their cuffs and collars on, but when they got up to the city they found that they needed more school ing worse than they needed their cuffs and collars. Messrs. Logan Jenkins and Hyder Phillips attended services at Ross Grove last Sunday afternoon. Mr. Tom Stroup Is getting along very well. He was able to go to Gaffney last Saturday. Messrs. D. C. Phillips and son, Ru fus, attended preaching at Ross Grove last Sunday afternoon. Mr. William Owensby, of Cherokee Falls, attended services here Sunday. The death of Prof. W. F. McArth ur was a sad dhocb to this commun ity. He was a good Christian and one of Cherokee county's best citi zens. Mrs. W. F. McArthur Is get ting along as well as could be ex pected. We hope for her a speedy recovery. Some of the farmers are selling their cotton. They say If the weath er stays fine there will be a big crop made, and the price of cotton will go down below ten cents. Messrs. J. V. Sarratt and Prof. R. O. Sams were down here last Satur day surveying some land for Mr. Jno. Owensby, that he bought from the Gaffney Land Company. He will build him a bouse before long. Mr. Claude Hammett, of Gaffney,} attended services here last Sunday. Messrs. Sheriff Thomas and Will Doggett, of Gaffney, were visitors to this section last Sunday. We regret to learn that our friend. Mr. Dock Leazer, of Limestone Mills, Is very low with typhoid fever. We wish him an Immediate recovery. Mr. Roland Parker has bought a lot at Gaffney and is erecting a dwell ing house on It. Mr. Elzie Parker has a position at Greer In the mill. He says he likes It fine, but we think he will be ready to come home before long, for there 1b no plaoe like home. Mrs. Felder Phillips and daugnier, Mlsg Josie, of Corinth, attended ser vices here last Sunday. Mr. C. M. Parker Is working at Gaffney thig week. He Is helping his brother, Mr. R. Gowdeyvllle, Oct 25.—The death of Mr. Leslie Wright wag a great shock to his many friends In this com munity. Mr. William Dabb Is very low with cancer and Is not expected to live. Rev. L. R. Gaines filled his regular appointment at Rehoboth Sunday. Mrs. Charles Garner and Mr. E. R.
