NOTES AND COMMENTS. Mr. Williati] Dollar, | Good Citizen. i In a certain western town lives a gentleman whose name is William Dollar. They call him Dollar Bill when they get funny. But Mr. Dol lar is a dignified, enter prising, good citizen. Not every Dollar Bill is a good citizen. Many of them are prone to ignore the claims of their own community and run away to a big city to be spent. Many millions of Dollar Bills have left the smaller towns for the overgrown cities this present year of our Lord/ How many* Dollar Bills have gone out of THIS TOWN —left home and gone to some big city, never to return ? \ Every time a Dollar Bill leavos town it takes a two-cent stamp with it, for it goes to a Mail Order Store. That helps the postmaster a little, but it doesn’t help the local merchant. It means just so much less trade for him. What about the city dock propo sition? Will not the council take the initiation with a good appropria tion for this purpose and let us see what can be done on the outsde. • • • It Is said that the peonle in the up per part of the town are getting nothing but Limestone springs water. Will the Board of Public Works please say whether or not this Is the case? • • B Watch Gaffney grow. A number of citizens have signified their intention of erecting handsome residences In the near future, and If we only had a sewerage system we believe that the city would double her population with in the next live years. • • • No wonder the sales of White 1 Diamond water have Increased. Paul 1 Gaffney is telling some of the most gigantic yams about its virtues that were ever heard. If we could do it for RAVENNA READING. Newsy Notes and Personals of a Thriving Community. Ravenna. Sept. 18.—The religious exercises at Goucner last Sunday wero most impressive. At 10:30 a large crowd met at the pool to witness the baptizing, and when the doors of the church were again opened, another soul came out “on the Lord’s side.” After a few passages of Scripture were read by Rev. J. W. Guy. pastor of the church, he explained plainly why the baptism was observed by all Baptists. After finishing his remarks a hymn was sung, followed bv prayer l)v Rev. Mr. Hair, representative of the Baptist Courier. After the prayer the choir sang. “Shall we gather at the river?’’ and at its conclusion Rev. J. W. Guy led the candidates info the clear water where he baptized eleven in fonrtetn minutes. Immediately following the baptism the large crowd returned to the church where Rev. Mr. Hair preached an excellent ser mon. After Mr. Hair had finished his discourse Mr. Guy had the new mem bers to assemble around the pulpit and while singing, the right hand of Christiten fellowship wag given them, after which came last, but not least, the Lord’s Supper, closing the day’s program. The next meeting of this church takes place the third Sun- marketed from this place. When they get ahead of “Brooka” they have to get up and more than hnatle.
