Postmaster A. R. N. Folger is ever awake to the interests of the patrons j of his office and is constantly labor-; ing to the end thab he may give the people the best possible service. Lately his energies have been direct ed towards securing some additional; free rural deliveries. How well his efforts have succeeded is set forth in the following letter from Congress-1 man Finley: Washington, D. C.. April 13, lOOC. Mr. A. R. N. Folger, P. M., Gaffney. S. C. Dear Sir:—Your letter of the bth inst.. came duly to hand. I am very glad indeed to know that the neces sary number of names have been se cured on Routes 7 and 8. and hope that they will be-ready to go into oper ation very soon. . I take esnecial pride in Cherokee coifntv as being the first county in my congressional district to be given countv service. It is the second conn- tv in the State to be so designated. And this is positive proof that there is no better county in the State. Honing to hear from you whenever I can lie of anv service to you. I am, Yours very truly, D. E. Finley. Since the receipt of the above let* ter Postmaster Folger has been noti fied bv the postal authorities that ser vice on Routes Nos. 7 and 8 will begin on June 15. An Extraordinary Eqg- Mr Robert E. Buford St. Church Notes. : Enworth League will meet tonight at (he home of Dr. Garrett’s at 8 i o’clock. Second quarterly conference will be held at parsonage Satn-la ,r night at 8 o’clock. Rev. J. W. Kilgore will be present and preside. Annual missionary collection was taken last Sunday and a large amount was secured. Dr. R. A. Childs, financial agent of Wofford College, secured about $1,200 toward endowment for Wofford here j this week. The pastor, who has been confined to his room for several days, will be ; in his nlace Sunday. % ^ ; At conclusion of services Sunday, Connect me. I want to get some fresh meats, installation of Epworth League om- | cers will take place. Hello. Central! Who keeps the cleanest market in town? p'i Dr. Allen Loses His Clothes. Dr. Ben Alien went down to Colum bia last week to attend a meeting of the doctors. After the meeting Dr. Alien went to see his mother. So far all went well. But when the doctor started home his troubles be gan. He had taken with him a dress suit case In which were all his best clothes, including a dress suit, sev eral “blled" shirts, a pair of patent leather shoes, and some other things (which said things are seldom men tioned in a well regulated newspaper, except in the gdvertising columns). This dress suit case Dr. Allen avers he placed in the coach in which he rode, but he has never lafll eyes on it since. There seems to be but one solution of the matter. The case was cither stolen or was unintentionally purloined by a seody-looking individ ual who ambulated from the train at Chester, in a condition that would indicate that he had imbibed too Ireelv of the “chemically pure” dur ing his sojourn in Columbia. In other words Dr. Allen is out a dress suit case that contained his best suit of clothes, and he has no idea who in the mischief got it. BUY CITY PROPERTY. Now is the time to purchase town property. The farmers of Cherokee can do nothing better than to pur chase a small place in town. It offers an inducement that, never before has been offered in tlfiB country. Why own a piece of town property? First, be cause it offers a surer and quicker re turn than does anv other investment. Second, Gaffnev has as fertile and re sourceful country to draw from as any town in the State. How can we help but grow? A new railroad in sight will give us fine railroad ficilities. Wr. have a climate that is unexcelled. We have untold mineral resources, un" limited water-powers. One of which is to be developed right away. The development of power plants means now mills of all shapes and descrip tions. New mills means new people, new people means more business for merchants. A saving of $100 or more to the milling interests of Gaffney per annum. The differenc fi between the use of electrical and steam power, means better dividends, better wages to producer, better dividends to stock holders. Better wages to producer means new homes and a desire to own instead of renting. Real estate is the surest and safest of all investments. Gaffnev is growing rapidly. New peo ple coming In every day. No houses u> rent hardly.* New depot, showing that, railroad appreciates increased patronage. New college building un der contemplation, showing that fici- lities are not great enough for girls desirous of attending Limestone. A new hotel under contemplation, show ing ‘hat traveling public is increas ing and showing that, with an up to date hotel. we believe we can bring in lots of tourists. Gaffnev has st last awaken to the fact) that a commeclal club was a neces- sitv on account of diversity of busi ness interests and the increase of all businesses. We expect to have un der tins new regime, sewerage, ce ment' sidewalks, nlentv of water. One man writes. “Your town is a hustler. Rep if vou can find me a creek capa ble of 1000 horse-power development for hosiery mill.” I have twenty-nine anniications for lots by outsiders. Twenty-seven for houses and lots, and fifty-nine for small farms close to town. 1 am now offering some pro perty very cheap and on eisv terms. The man who is afraid to take hold is the man who never accomplishes anything. The old saving. “Nothing risked, nothing gained.” A citizen who does not push the town is a drone so let everyone take hold and work just a little for the upbuilding of the town and country at, large. Sheriff Thomas will build a kicking machine for the accommodation of those who wi«h to kick themselves in future vears for not buying when property was cheap. The town has grown within the Past few years under most adverse circumstances, and it stands to reason that under favorable cir cumstances she will continue to grow and even more rapidly than she has in the oast. Come in and see me. I have some property that is cheap, desirable, and on easy terms. If you have any farm lands you are desirdus of sel’lng, houses and lots, timber or anything, bring it to me. I only charge a nomi nal sum. I save purchasers the pay ment for all papers. I have expense to parties selling, of surveying, of re cording papers, of having soil examin ed. of having limber estimared, of showing place to parties, of advertis ing. Bring your property to me, I can find a wav to sell It at the right p-ice. I can find a wav for a purchaser to buy it if he desires it. R. L.
