The countv machinery was observ
ed vesterdav for the first time In some
time. It was engaged in conveying
cinders from the suburbs of the city
to he placed on the sidewalks.
On account of the revival at the
First Baptis* church, the Woman's
' iterary Club will meet at the resi
dence of Mrs. R. S. Lipscomb at 5
o'clock insiead of 4.30, the usual
hour Thursday afternoon.

It is imoossible to make any predict
ion as to the auaR*v of ball to be
turned out by the players, but It is
safe to assume that th§ eame will be
exciting and interesting, as th** two
teams are exceptionally evenly
matched. The two teams will be
composed of young men from this
city, one f^om the Berean class of
the Baptist Sunday school and the
other one with voung men from the
Presbyterian and Methodist Sunday
schools. The game will probably be
played at Limestone. An effort will
be made to have the dummy make a
trio to carry anv desiring to ydtness
the exhibition. No admission will be
charged and a large and enthusiastic
crowd should witness the game

the city. Magistrate Bridges imposed
a fine of $5.00 or ten days in each

Mr. Augustus Stroup, who has been
engaged with the Cherokee Drug Co.
for some time, has resigned his posi
tion and returned to his home in
Cherryville. N. C. Mr. Stroup has
made many friends durine his stay
in the city, who regret exceedingly
to lose him. F?e is succeeded at the
Cherokee Drug Co. by Mr. C. S. Low-
rv. of Seneca. Mr. Lowry is cordi
ally welcomed in our midst.

been proprietor of a pool room and
loitering place for negroes in this
city, was recently charged with con

adjudged a nuisance by the ma—

the docket yesterday, and it did not
materialize, as the accused one did
not appear and forfeited a bond.
Mr. Junius Parrott, assorii'e edi
tor of The Cherokee News, was the
victim Friday afternoon of a very
painful, as well as unusual, nccident
While in the act of riding toward his
home on his bicvcl- late Friday after
noon he fell from it and sustained
ver/ painful injuries, although Mr
Parrott had no Idea at that time that
any serious injuries w r ould result. He
was able to attend a theatrical per
formance in the evening, but by the
time it was concluded he was suffer
ing intently. Medical examination at
hig home after the performance dis
closed the fact that the right knee
was dislocated and had sustained a
slight fracture a sta'e of affairs tnat
Mir. Parrott had not antlcipa'ed at all,
although his pain had bee.i Intense.
We are glad to report him doing nice
ly. although he will l>e confined for
some time.

A Serious Shooting Affray.
A cutting and shooting affray oc
curred Friday afternoon near the
Globe mill that was unusual on ac
count of thp number of principals
concerned in it. The affray occurred
at the store of Mr. Bright, near the
mill. The affair at a glance seems to
be rather complicated, but when look
ed into it takes on form about as fol
lows: James Blanton, white, is at his
home severely cut, supposed'v by Hose
Bright, who is in jail- Bruz Bright,
son of Hose, is at his home shot,
probably by Blanton, the man who is
cut. Tho rumors that were at first
a'loat about the matter had several
others engaged in the affair, who. it
now develops, are 1101 interested in
the least. Enquiries made yesterday
by tile writer as t 0 the extent of the
two wounded mail’s injuries w r ou!d ap
parently show neither to bp seriously
hurt.

Meeting at First Baptist Church.
The revival meeting began at the
First Baptist church Sunday morning.
Dr. Wm. E. Hatcher, of Ricnmond Va.,
being the conductor. Large congrega
tions are in attendance and consider
able interest is being manifested.
Dr. Hatcher is one of the foremost
ministers in the Baptist church today
and his ripe experience but the better
qualifies him for the task of direct.ng

cross.
