RICH CANNOT AFFORD CHILDREN Better Class Have Too Much Taxes to Pay, Says Woman. New York, Nov. 15.—“The better class of people in New York cannot af ford families. They have too much to pay In taxes to support the large fam ilies of the thoughtless poor.” This was the bomb which Mrs. S. B. Corey exploded yesterday at the Soci ety for Political Study in a resume of the evils patent now New Yorkers stand, created the greatest sensation in the society’s history. “New York property owners,” said Mrs. Gory, “pay increasingly large taxes every year, due mainly to the enormous immigration. ‘Who, may I ask, ‘would wan tto pay taxes to ed ucate children t.iat should never have been brought into the world? Why should the thrifty pay for the shift less?’ “I am not so un-Christian as to say the children who come here cannot be cared for; but Just so long as the tax payers ppy for expensive play grounds, etc., th£ children of the poor will in crease like rabbits in a burrow. No wonder our houses of refuge and re formatories are filled.” NEGROES ARE NOT IDENTIFIED. Mrs. Moore Fails to Recognize Pris oners as Her Assailant. Atlanta, Nor. 8.—Mrs. More, who was assaulted by a negro about two weeks ago at Brook wood, came to the city yesterday to see the two negro suspects, Luckie Elliott and Will Jack- son, who were held at the Tower as her assailant. The negroes were not released, as the arresting officers have stated that they intended to prosecute them on the charge of vagrancy. Of the five negroes arrested for the assault of Mrs. Moore, three were re leased last week, and as the remaining two have not been identified, the ne gro wanted is still at large. The police are still looking for the negro wanted, but there seems now to be little hope that he will ever be caught. Fairbanks’ Washington Home.
