The pigs are on exhibition at Mr. Cook’s residence on Buford street. j. M. Nelson, the Star Clotheir, is making extensive preparations for a mammoth special sale to begin to morrow. the 8th, and continue for ten days. It will be the largest sale of the kind he has ever had in this city. Cotton went un to eleven cents yes terday, but even at that price a great deal of it that came to town was stor ed in the warehouses. The sales Sat urday were HI bales.; and up to the present the total receipts for the season have nearly reached the 6,000 mark— over half of the receipts for the entire season last year. Owing to the price being higher here sometimes than at other places, the Gaffney market has drawn from a larger area than before; which accounts for the increase in sales. There is still a lot of cotton in the county to be sold; but if the •price continue to advance, a greater portion of it will probably be rushed to market in a very short time. Charged With House Burning. Lee Scott, colored, was given a pre liminary hearing Friday morning be fore Magistrate C. T. Bridges on the charge of house burning. The house alleged to have been burned was on the plantation of Capt. S. S. Ross, of this city. 'The house was situated in northeastern Cherokee and was occu pied by the negro himself. The burn ing occurred Wednesday night and the house was totally destroyed, in cluding some valuable furniture. The magistrate considered the evidence sufficient to hold the accused, so bound him over to court. He was re presented at the preliminary by Col. T. B. Butler of the local bar. •vi PISO’S CURE FOR' Hneat A T l ^* SI 0»- In time.
