The sales this week have probably averaged about 200 bales a day. T. C. Wood and family have moved back to Gaffney, after an absence of several months. Mr. Wood has a po sitlon at the Victor oil mill. The Limestone Mills Company is having the operatives houses paint ed, all of different colors, which adds much to the looks of the mill town. Joe L. Estes Is preparing to open up a merchandising business at Etta Jane, in lower Cherokee. He was In Gaffney yesterday buying goods for his new store. Junius Phillips, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Felder Phillips of the Cor inth section, died Wednesday morn ing and was buried yesterday at Corinth church. The boy was about ten years old. Herman Nelson, of the Star Cloth ier, made a business trip to Atlanta this week. He is preparing to have a big sale. It will pay you to look up his advertisement elsewhere and see the bargains that are offered. The Ladies’ Aid Society, of the Presbyterian church will not have their regular annual flower show this season on account of a scarcity of flowers. They expect to have one next fall, however, and hope to make a finer and large display than ever be fore. A new and novel candy making out fit has been on the streets for several days. The machine is run by gaso lene and the candy is made from grandulated sugar, which is snun In to a form resembling a spider’s web in texture and lint cotton in color. The eating savors somewhat of “moonshine.” A bridge over the south fork of the Catawba river on the Southern rail road, between this place and Char lotte, was burned Wednesday night, and as a result Gaffney was “shy” two trains yesterday.
