Zeno Blackwell, flirmer United States Deputy Marshal in Cherokee county, was tried in the United States court at Greenville tins wee on tin* cl ■ rge of : filing whiskey and acquitted. Blackwell had been fined ! ; Py dollars by the mayor of Gaffney on a similar charge. Mr. .Too Pryor was right painfully hurt yesterday afternoon by having hi> right hand caught between the front wheel and body of his wagon, just as his team was making a turn. The accident happened at McCraw’s gin in this city where Mr. Pryor had taken some cotton to he ginned. Cotton still continues to come In. notwithstanding the drop-off in the market. Eigty hales were sold here I Tuesday, seventy-one Wednesday, and a considerable number yesterday. The price paid Wednesday was 9 1-3 cents; yesterday, the market had ad vanced to 9 5-8. Some cotton is being stored. Mr. W. C. Carpenter is confined to his home with a sore arm, the result of a slight burn on the forefinger of his left hand which was caused by a cigar. His condition was somewhat alarming for several days; hut his numerous friends in the city will he glad to learn that he is now improv ing. with prospects of a speedy re covery. L. U. Campbell left Tuesday night for New York to close the deal made some time since with English capital 1st i for the old Magnolia gold mine property in York county. The party will meet and transact their business at the Warldorf-As*oria hotel. Very soon after the proper transfer is made, the property will be opened up and put in active operation. J. C. Evans, i mining exnert of California, who has been in Gaffney and Cherokee county for several weeks making examination of the va rious minerals in the county, has an nounced the discovery of platinum in mtying quantities on the plantation of C;ipt W. P. Love. It is rumored that valuable deposits are being perfected and that work will be commenced in the near future. The appearance of platinum in this place may indicate its being in other parts of the county, and if such prove to he the case, it will be a great tiling for Cherokee county. It is known that deposits of several valuable minerals have been discovered at various times in Cher okee. it being a county that possesses quite a lot of wealth in its mineral deposits.
