Limestone College has nearly one hundred and seventy-five boarders in the building, and more to come! The streets and sidewalks leading out to Limestone College have been cleared off and put in good condition. Miss Mamie McCraw has severed her connection with The Battery and has accepted a position in the dress making department of Lipscomb, Goudelock & Co. Rev. W. T. Thomson, who was bad ly burned last week by the explosion of a gasolene lamp, is resting well, and seems to be improving, though slowly. Cotton sold on this market last week averaged about a hundred bales a day. The price ranged from 10 cents to 10:10 towards the latter part of the week. Yesterday morning the market opened at 10:20, but soon went up to 10:25. Only a few bales were sold yesterday. A small snake, about eight inches long, was killed In the postoffice Sat urday. It is not known just how it got into Postmaster Folger’s sacred precincts, but is supposed to have been hiding in a boot which Mr. A. W. Folger had brought from the shop only a short while before the snake was discovered. i Deal Next Friday Night. Miss Elizabeth Berkeley Grimball will appear at the Star Theatre next Friday night. Miss Grimball is a read er and comes to us endorsed J>y such men as Rev'. Robert Pell, of Converse College, Rev. B. F. Wilson and Dr. R. H. Peters, former of Converse College. The evening program will consist of reading by Miss Grimball, augmented by singing, posing, etc., by local tal ent. The proceeds are to go for the benefit of the local library association. The Columbia State has the following very pleasing notice of Miss Grimball: “This afternoon the department of vocal music and elocution in Converse College, Spartanburg, tendered the Woman’s Exchange of this city a ben efit recital. The program was most pleasing from start to finish. Miss Grimball was the reader, and bet versatility was best shown in her rendition of the monologue, “When Jack Comes Late,” in which her ease of manner and natural grace caught and held the attention and the admira tion of the audience, eliciting round after round of applause. United States Army, sent a beautiful cross of flowers for the grave of their comrade, Mr. DeCosta McBrayer. It was placed on his grave last Thursdav at Camp’s Creek church. It will be re membered that Mr. McBrayer was recently drowned at Fort Monroe, Bal timore, where his company was sta tioned. He was the son of the late Dr. Jno. H. McBrayer, and a very fine young man.
