Two carloads of immigrants passed through Gaffney Wednesday morning going south. Mrs. Mary Turner is now occupying her new residence on Petty stree, which has recently been finished. The street force has been at work out at Limestone College for several days this week, cleaning off and straightening up the sidewalks. Mrs. S. J. King, of Blacksburg, was called to Spartanburg last week on ac count of the death of a young relative, Mr. Ralph Waskins. A. N. Wood will soon be prepared to store, insure, receipt for and lend money on cotton for farmers who de sire such protection. See his ad. in another column. Mr. Nathanial Burgess has purchas ed the cottage of Babe Gaines, on East Vernon street, and he and Mrs. Burgess are now installed in their new home. Miss Pearl Whisonant, of Wilkins- ville, is now with r arroll & Byers, in their dress goods department, where she will be pleased to see and serve her friends. Mr. Kimsey O. Huskey has accepted a position with Nelson, the popular dry goods and clothing merchant op posite the postoffice, where he would be pleased to see his friends. Ed Durham, who was arrested last week for the third time on a charge of selling liquor, is in jail under a $500 bond for his appearance at next term of court. j. T. Bramlett is preparing to build a nice two-story residence on a lot he recently purchased on Victoria ave nue. out towards Limestone. Mr. Bramlett will move his family into it when completed. Cotton has been coming in steadily all the week. The receipts for the past three days probably averaged a hundred bales a day, and the price paid has been from ten cents to ten- ten. The latter price prevailed yes terday. Landrum Brown, who has been liv ing in Charlotte, N. C., for a number of years, has come back to Gaffney to go in business with his brother-in-law. Mr. W. C. Carpenter. Ho will not move liis family over till some time in November. We welcome Landrum back to his old home town, and hope ho will not decide to leave us again. t NOTICE. At the morning service Miss Evelyn Sarratt will sing one of the songs that Cunningham has made famous, “If I were a Voice." There will also be some special music at night. A cordial invitation is extended to the ‘‘College girls,” and to the teach ers, and to all strangers and visitors to worship with the congregation. The Sabbath school meets at 9:45 sharp. Literature for the next quarter will l»e given out and it is desired that all members of the school and all who will join may be present. The Fire Yesterday. Col. T. B. Butler’s barn, in rear of his home on Victoria avenue, was de stroyed by fire altout 3 o’clock yester day ‘ aftornoon.
