Miss Blanche Peeler is at her post again at Carroll A- Byers’ after a va cation of two weeks. Him Whitesides, colored, was fined $2.50 in the mayor’s court yesterday morning for disorderly conduct. A. L. Peeler is now In Baltimore for the purpose of buying goods to open up a five and ten cents bargain house in Gaffney. Work on the city’s new well is still going on, though rather slowly ar times, on account of encountering lay ers of hard rock. Seven-Eighths of Capital Stock Has Been Subscribed. The proposed new cotton mill, re ferred to in thes ecolumns last week, seems now practically assured, seven- eighths of the capital stock having al ready been subscribed. The mill’s location has not yet been definitely determined upon but it is quite likely that the fibre mill will he utilized for this purpose. This new enterprise will be a wel come addition to the business Interests of Gaffney, and The Ledger is pleased to know that Mr. Webster, the promo ter, has met with such Mattering en couragement. Mr. Webster is a thorough mill man. He is acquainted with the business from A to Z, and it may he depended upon that he will make a success of the new mill. The Old Folks at Home. There was a very pleasant gathering of old friends at the home of Prof. Wm. F. MacArthur a few miles east of the city last Sunday. Those present, were Mr. and Mrs. Smilh Lipscomb, of Tex as; Mr. Alex Lipscomb, of Texas; Prof. W. L. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Austell, Mrs. W. L. Lipscomb, Mrs. A. E. Lipscomb, Mrs. Agnes Wood ami Mrs. Nancy MacArthur. A bountiful dinner was spread, and It was indeed a royal feast. The company indulged in reminiscences of former days to the heart's content and when the evening hour had arrived they were slow to de part. It will he a day long to be re membered by them for they all got full—full of emotion, full of joy, full of good things to eat, including a feast of watermelon. A Cute Water Motor. Gunter Bros., who maintain a dental parlor in the Star Theatre building, have installed an Alford Den*al Mo tor. This machine does away with the foot power machine they have been using. The machine Is a new Invent ion of Dr. Alford, a Sumter dentist, and is a most practical piece-of (|**ut- al machinery. It ‘.urns the drills and other tools that the dentist uses in digging out the decayed matter in a molar, as well as operating a fan and supplying hot and cold water. The machine was Installed yesterday by Dr. B. B. Breeden, who came here for that specific purpose. It is a cute little motor and an up-to-date addition to *he already splendid equipment of Gunter Bros. Fined for Selling Liquor. Ed Durham was arrested again yes terday morning on a charge of seliing liquor without license. He was tried before Mayor Gaffney, found guilty, and sentenced to pay a fine of $190 or go to the gang for ‘hirty days. The arrest was made by one of the city police officers.
