Miss Wilma Gaffney entertained a number of her voung friends Friday evening, at her home on Grenard street. it is desired that the farmers of Cherokee meet in the city nark, or courthouse, on the 19th inst.. at 9:30 A. M.. to organize a farmers’ club. Presiding Elder Kilgo. of the Meth odist church, will preach at Buford Street Methodist church next Sabbath,; morning and evening. The public is invited to attend. Rev. F. H. Wardlaw, of Greenwood, will preach at the Presbyterian church on Sunday, the 23rd inst. A cordial invitation is extended to uie nubile to attend the services. The farmers’ institute will be held at the courthouse in Gaffney tomor row (Wednesday). Every farmer in Cherokee should attend, if possible: for there will be many things to in terest him. There was a dance Friday after- noon at the pavilion on Goat island, in Broad river. Good music was fur nished and the couples enjoyed them selves hugely. The attendants were all from this city. On account of the pastor of the First Baptist church. Rev. A. M. Simms, being unwell, there was no services at that church Sunday night. The congregation joined in with the Buford Street Methodist congregation at their evening service. The tender of a shifting train ran off the track at the switch near Buford street crossing Saturday and delayed the train for a short time. The failure of the switch to work properly caused the trouble. The section crew were soon on hand and repaired the damage. Lightning struck a tree last Thurs day near Mrs. W. I). Alexander’s res idence. at Lawn, and slightly shock ed Messrs. \V. W. Whelchel and J. A Alexander, and severely shocked Mr. Jake Parris, all of whom were fully one hundred yards from where it struck. Mr. Parris was so severely shocked that he had to be carried in to the house. Up to Saturday he had not recovered from the effects of the shock.
