FATAL ENDING OF JOKE.
Tragic Termination of a Prank Played
By Husband Upon Wife.
Paris, April 2(i.— Al. Edmond Leiouse,
wishing to play a joke on his wife,
dressed up a wax figure, the head ol
which and one of the hands he ligli
iy attached to the body by means o!
gum and placed it in a bed.
While Leiouse was watching the pro
ceedlngs from behind some draperie.:
his wife, about to retire, grasped whai
she supposed in the semi-darkness t<-
be her husband’s hand, but which wa:
in reality that of the wax figure. The
hand, cold and clammy, detached it
self from the limp and remained iu
her grasp. With a terrible cry oi
terror, Mme’. Leiouse let the hand drop
to the ground and flung her arms
around the figure’s neck, when the
head also became detached and rolled
down upon the floor. The terror-strick
en woman, uttering piercing shrieks
ran down the stairs, where she wa^
stopped by some neighbors and detain
ed. When the police arrived it was
found that she had become raving mad.
l^ater she was conveyed to the asy
lum. When the husband was apprised
of the hopelessness of his wife’s condi
tion he poisoned himself by swallow
ing a dose of nitric acid.

The making of it is an art. There must be atten-

We make it as it should be made. Pure carbon
