The night service will begin at 8 o’clock. Carroll & Byers have enclosed the large lot in rear of their store with a substantial fence for the benefit of the public, to hitch stock in. The finishing plant of the Gaffney Manufacturing company has been shut down pending some arrangements re garding its management. Mr. G. L. Martin, a merchant and planter at the battleground, was so- riousiy burned last Sunday while’ sleeping in front of his fireplace. L. V. Campbell lias bought the lot in rear of his property on the corner of Victoria avenue and Race street, and will build on it at an early day. Hinson, of Camden, was in the city Tuesday on business with W. H. Smith, of the Smith Hardware Compnay, and the result is that Mr. Hinson will return in about a week to begin manufacturing harness for the Smith Company. Miss Eflie Bird, of Antioch, who has been teaching the Corinth school, lias closed her engagement and returned home. She was an efficient teacher ! and her patrons were highly pleased with the manner in which she con ducted the school. Mr. John Henry Ruppe, son of Jo seph D. Ruppe, died of pneumonia on Monday evening. He was residing at I the home of James Henry Ruppe at the time of his death, liis remains were buried at Cherokee church, near Maud, Tuesday evening. Robert Moore and a man by the name of Moss engaged in a very se rious cutting scrape last Tuesday. Moore was found lying in the road ter ribly lacerated, while Moss made good his escape. !)r. Anderson treated Mr. Moore. Ho had to sew up several ug ly gashes. Mr. S. L. Hopper lias rented the ho tel formerly run by C. G. ParHi and known as the Central Hotel. The traveling people and the public will find by calling on “Pnclc Sam” that ire is not by any means a now man in the hotel business, but is fully up to the business, as lie is a clever, congenial and an up-to-date hotel man. Preparations are being made to double the capacity of the store of thp Gaffney Manufacturing company. Some time ago the ust of one of the large rooms was disoontiinued; but new goods will now Ire placed in this room, the force of salesmen increased, and the company will carry one of the . largest stocks in the city.
