C., on a prolonged trip, to look after the affairs of his father’s j estate. The thermometer registered eleven degrees above zero early yesterday morning, and the ground was frozen hard. Mrs. W. M. Plummer went to States ville Tuesday afternoon to join her husband, where they will make their future home. There will be preaching at Buford Street Methodist churc^i Sunday at It A. M. and 7:30 P. A.Robertson is able to be at his market again after several weeks’ con finement at his home from an opera tion for appendicitis. • Miss Lillian Jones entertained her friends Thursday evening at her home on Frederick street. The young peo pie had an enjoyable time. Governor Heyward has appointed Dr. J. Nelson Ricardo, of this city, a member of the Homeopathic Board of Medical Examiners of South Carolina. F. X. Davis, from the upper part of the county, arrived in the city yester day to enter upon the duties of assis tant bookkeeper at Carroll & Byers’ new establishment. Robert Levell, of Newberry, who is now sole representative of the Rock well Furniture Company, of Rockwell, N. C., spent yesterday in the city in the interest of his house, and with his father-in-law, Postmaster Folger. M. L. Campbell, of Columbia, who recently purchased the Wilkins-Bris- tovv Company stock of goods, arrived Wednesday with his wife and daugh ter, Miss Mae, to make their home in the city. We extend them a cordial welcome. A. B. Gaines is doing some hand some and artistic sign work for the Cherokee and Gaffney drug compa nies. He has just completed a lot of ornamental work for Messrs. Carroll & Byers at their new store; and also some for the National bank. “Broad” is hard to beat In his art. C. E. Fisher, agent for the Southern Express Company, went to Elberton, Ga., the first of the week to relieve his brother, T. B. Fisher, and will re turn about the first of March. M. J. Smith, of Greenville, is attending to his duties here while he is absent. Wins & Co. Death of a Baby. The two-weeks-old child of Mr. and Mrs. Fred V. Turner, of Limestone, died Tuesday morning at 8 o’clock, after a week’s illness. The remains were interred in' Oakland^ cemetery Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock, funeral services being conducted by Rev. J. M. Steadman, of the Buford Street Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Turner have the ten der sympathy of the entire community in the loss of their little one. Graffney, S. Web ber, brothers, and sons of Mr. P. S. Webber, of Wllkinsville, live in about one hundred yards of each other. Both are married men, and on the night above mentioned the wife of W. H. Webber gave birth to a plump girl baby, and in just three minutes by the clock, on the same night, a fine boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Web ber. Both mothers and both babies are progressing nicely, and both fathers are happy and jubilant. Born.
