Walter Humphries sang a solo at Goucher last Sabbath that was a treat to the large audience. A. B. Gaines has come over from Yorkville to do some ornamental work in the new storeroom of Messrs. Car- roll & Byers. Yesterday, Feby. 2d, was “ground hog day.” Those who have faith in the ground-hog theory may make their plans accordingly. Notwithstanding the low price of cotton, several bales of the staple hare been sold on the market Wednes day and yesterday. The passenger trains on the South ern have about gotten back to their regular schedules, and are now run ning very nearly on time. Taylor Bros, moved their stock of goods yesterday from the Jefferies brick store room to the old dispensary I store room on Grenard street. Street Overseer Codk is bracing the ! side#alk on Frederick street, by the new National bank building, with a | neat and substantial rock wall. The Acme Furniture Company have j moved thei,' stock of furniture from Limestone street and the stock is now j condensed with the Acme Furniture Company stock on Grenard street. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Moore, of Green ville, have arrived in the city and will make this place their home in the) future. Mr. Moore will go in business S with his father-in-law, Mr. W. A. Pee-: j j ler. The piles of now lumber about the town indicate an amount of building | that will keep all the carpenters, I , bricklayers and plasterers, busy dur- ! ing the spring. Gaffney is improving, - too, in the manner of the houses that i are being built. Dr. J. N. Nesbitt left on the north bound vestibule Wednesday afternoon for New York, where he 1ms gone to take an extra course of about six weeks in medicine. Dr. J. T. Darwin will look alter his practice while he is away. That solo at the First Baptist j church last Sabbath night by Miss Eva Ross, with organ and violin ac- campaniment, was a sweet produc tion. The duet in the morning by Misses Evelyn S:. ratt and Irene Lock- wood, was a bo very fine. The first quarterly meeting of the Limestone Street church will be held at the Limestone Street church Sun- j day afternoon at 4 o’clock. There will be preaching at 7 o’clock by the pre siding elder, Rev. J. W. Kilgo. The public is cordially invited. I Rev. J. W. Kilgo will hold the first quarterly conference for Buford Street Methodist church at the parsonage Saturday evening at 7:30. Every offi cial is requested to be present. Mr. Kilgo will preach in Buford Street church Sunday morning at 11 o’clock. Mr. Sumter Littlejohn, who pur chased the stock of goods of The Dix ie Clothing and Shoe Store, is having a clearance sale of the goods. The sale began yesterday and will contin ue for ten days. The stock is a splen did one, and Mr. Littlejohn says the goods must go. A week from next Tuesday, the 14th, ! is St. Valentine’s day, and the show S windows of the drug stores are bright I with “Cupid’s messengers” for use on that occasion by the young folks who are afflicted with the “tender passion.” Some of the valentines shown are not i quite so pretty, and have nothing : whatever to do with Cupid’s affairs. ; Messrs.
