Wauchula, Fie., Feb. 1.—It is now believed that the Kirby * tragedy was caused by the wife and mother. Here The Czar Decides To Talk With i9 th, ‘ ; as low ,ul(J: John Kirby, hjs wife and four chil dren, who met death recently, came to Waucula last October from Blount county. Between 8 and 9 p. m. Jan. 24 fire was seen coming out of the house by Mr. Harrell, the father-in-law, who Jived across an open field about a quarter of a mile distant. He ran to the house, found the door and win dow closed and fire coming out through cracks and through the joof. The lire was so hot he could not get to the door or the window. There had been a gallon of kero sene oil taken to the house on tho day beiore. When the house was burned down the kerosene can was found unexplod ed. Man’s skull and that of the old est boy, 13 years old, were both brok en in on the side. The woman’s skull was intaet. The skulls of tho three smaller children were entirely burned. All the family evidently perished on thoir beds except the wife and one child. A hammer was found not far from where she lay. The concensus of opinion is that she did the deed, using the kerosene oil to fire the house and then took her own life. Augusta, Ga., Feb. 1.—While tending the graves of her dead in the city cemetery Mrs. Percy Spellman, a re spected young white woman, was assaulted by an unknown negro man. The negro sought to stifle the screams of the young woman, but she was able to wrench herself free and cry out. The negro immediately put off into the foliage and was sodn lost in the maze of avenues that ruu in all directions. it is not known whether the police have caught the negro or not. They profess the utmost ignorance in tho matter, although it is known that all the detectives and) several regular of ficers, who have been put in plain clothes, assisted by the county author ities, are working hard on the case. Mrs. Spellman is scratched and somewhat bruised, and is also the vic tim of very severe shock. She is un able, as yet, to be out of her room. Th« friends of Mrs. Spellman are very much worked up over the attack and if they find the negro there is no doubt but that violence will be visited the United States yesterday to the ef fect that armed strikers were march ing on Cronstadt fortress and that Ad miral Birileff, the commander of the fortress, had caUed out the sailors to protect the place. Then, through the development of the individual, through moral improvement, through inocu lation, real respect for other, through | hatred of force, cruelty and injustice, will disappear.” Mother and Son Found Dead and WIN Fill Same Grave. Americas, Ga., Feb. 1.—Mrs. Mary Twitty and son, James Twitty, died last night and Tuesday afternoon tho mother and son were laid away to gether. Circumstances attending thoif deaths induce the belief that powerful drugs probably had been taken, but whether with attempt at self-destruc tion is a subject of conjecture. Both were found in the same room suffering from paroxysms, and neither ever regained consciousness sufficient ly to tell the story of their illness or possible attempt at self-destruction. Mrs. Twitty was perhaps the oldest resident of Americas, and mother ol the late Rev. Peter Twitty, once prom inent in the south Georgia conference. James Twitty was a compositor out of employment, and despondency may have caused his act. Dyiamite Does Serious Work. Tallapoosa. Ga., Feb. 1.—Frank Songer's wife was seriously injured this evening by a dynamite explosion. One leg was shattered above tho knea near the thigh, and a part of a stove was blown through the other. Every window in the house was shattered and a child was blown entirely out of the house into the yard. Some workmen in digging a well last summer hud used dynamite for blasting and had carelessly put one stick left over into an old stove for safekeeping. Tues day Songer moved- into town and the old stove was brought along and set up. Mrsi Songer made a fire in it this evening with the results stated. Warsaw Is Quiet. Warsaw, Feb. 1.—Noon.—The city is quiet, although great tension still pre vails. Some stores and offflles have been re-opened, but only two newspa pers were published this morning.
