INEQUALITIES. The Fairfax Enterprise is an enter prising newspaper pulished at Fair-, fax, S. C. It is edited by a woman—a 1 good woman—a woman with a great j big heart massive intellect and sweet disposition. The type is set by women— young ladies that are intelligent and pretty—and we believe that the press work is also done by those young la dies. The editor of the Enterprise is, as might be supposed, a woman Suf fragist—whatever that is. At any rate she believes in woman having equal rights with man. We “go her” one step further and say woman should enjoy more privileges than man. Man is a brute—that is, most of them are —while woman, God bless her, is an angel sojourning on this mundane* sphere Woman is queen—of the house hold, of the baby show, of the theatre, of the hall room, of the horse show— of the universe. She should, there fore, enjoy all the privileges of man and as many more as she can. We can’t see any sense in allowing a big, gruff, whiskey-soaked, tobacco worm, whose every utterance is vile, to vote to make laws to govern gentle woman. When we think of it we become indig nant and we can’t trust ourself to express our feelings on the subject, and, besides, the Enterprise does it so much handsomer than we could pos sibly do it that we take pleasure in reproducing a late utterance of its ac complished editor on that subject, which is as follows; “If one person assumes to direct an other person an Inequality is thereby implied, a certain superiority on the part of the director. Now, if one wo man, for instance if my neighbor wo man said to me, ‘You ought not to go to the postoffice, it is unwomanly,” should I not resent it? Would not you, my sister reader? Yet that is exactly what my brother man does ’when he says to me, ’You cannot vote; It is unwomanly.* “How should he- assume to know what I ought not to do better than 5 myself? The fundamental principle of a republic is that ‘all nu n (meaning all people, women and men,) are creat ed free and equal.’ Now supposing woman to man’s equal, which the law that, taxes and hangs her assumes, is it not ridiculous that man should regulate her actions by his opinions or his preferences or his authority? “Supposing a woman to lie man’s in- enness has decreased 200 per cent., or over, in this county. It may yet be still more interesting to know that our city ' and county taxes will be about 2 mills higher anil.that the people will cheer fully pay the extra tax. We say that all this may interest them, but the pro dispensary papers will be slow to ad mit the truth of the statements here made (except the last one), and wirl refrain from making any favorable comment- on the same. Prohibition does not prohibit entirely, but it’s a long step toward a higher ideal of citizenship, especially where the senti ment of the people is for it and the officers of the law are as vigilant as are the officers of Gaffney city and Cherokee county. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Mr. Dispensary Advo cate. The Builders Supply Cc. Successors to L. Baker. of this kind will find this a splendid opportunity.
