Born to Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Mc- Craw, on Thursday the 8th inst, a fine boy. Sunday was a beautiful day and ser vices in the churches were largely at- , tended. J. B. T. Scott, of Newberry, w’as in the city Friday. He expects to move his business to Gaffney. Spencer Martin, colored* had a good , mule to die in Gaffney Thursday night, I from colic. About 7,600 bales of cotton have been sold at Gaffney this season, up to this time. G. W. Stegall has moved his stock of goods from factory hill to the old Settlemyer storeroom on Robinson street. i The coaches of No. 39, the south- | bound morning train on the South- ' ern, were covered with snow Sunday morning. Four five-gallon kegs and about a dozen three-gallon jugs of liquor were received by express on No. 39 Satur day morning. Louie Gaines has a pig five weeks old that weighs twenty-three pounds. It is a cross of the O. I. C. and Poland China species The annual conference of the Me thodists Is invited to meet In Gaffney next year. The invitation is endorsed by the churches and the town gener ally. There were a good many people in town Saturday and trade appeared to be lively. Not a drunk man was in sight on the streets nor in the back lots. H. C. Knox, who had his arm brok en and his ankle sprained by jumping from a moving train about two weeks ago, is able to be out on the streets again. J. W. Nance, formerly of Grindal but now of Union, was here Friday. He is in the livery business in Union and will move his family there about the 20th of this month. We are Informed that Mr. Virgil McCraw has resigned as salesman for the firm of Carroll, Carpenter & Byers* and will go back to his farm Xmas. He has been with the firm over nine years. S. R. Suber, our Kandy Kitchen man, has the largest doll that has probably ever been seen in Gaffney. It is forty-three inches in height, and weighs -about ten pounds. It looks like a “sure enough” child sitting up in its chair. Meeting of Board of B. R. Association. The executive board of the Broad River Association will meet in Gaff ney on Tuesday, the 20th of this pres ent month, at ten o’clock A. M. The board is composed of the fol lowing members: J. B. Ui |ln time. Sold by druggists. ssnssSExm Cherokee Concert Band. Gaffney now has a new brass band, with the name of the Cherokee Con cert Band, which was organized a short time ago. The boys are practic ing every night and making good head way. Gaffney needs a good band, and it is to be hoped that the members of this new one will take an interest in their work, and that it may become a permanent organization. Following is a list of the members with their respective parts: Jno. L. Green, solo B cornet; W. H. Ross, solo B cornet: Arthur J. Davis, first B cornet: E. J. Green, second B cornet: R. H. Hoard, second B cornet; Davie Green, E flat cornet; D. E. Hil dreth, E flat clarinet; H. W. Eddy, B flat clarinet; Fletcher N. Wood, solo alto; Ed. E. Reed, first alto; Robt. J. Wilkins, bass drum. A movement Is on foot to organize a string band, also, and Gaffney ought to furnish sufficient material for a good one.
