If those who are in possession of the facts will pre sent them to Mayor Gaffney or some county official, with authority to act, we believe they will make an honest effort to put a stop to it. Some peo ple will have it in spite of the devil, but the authorities should make it so warm for them that they will at least not Insult the friends of temper ance by such flagrant violations of the i law. * * * Will not the proper officials see to it that an officer be placed at the de pot to seize any and all liquors shipped here by express? If we are not mis taken. it is against the law to ship it into this county under any circum stances. Get busy, gentlemen of the law, and make the disturbing element respect the ma- j jesty of your position. • * * The telegraph editor of the Charles ton News and Courier made a funny error the other day. Mr. August j Kohn—who, by the way, is one of the I best newspaper men in this country— j had interviewed Senator Tillman on the political situation and the senator | had deprecated the bolt in Green-, ville county in the Walker-Speegle con-1 test. r ser that paragraph the tele graph editor put the sub-head: “Bad Effect of Cherokee Bolt.” The tele- i I graph editor should study the geogra- | phy of South Carolina. While it would please us very much to have Greenville 11 follow Cherokee’s example In the dis pensary matter, we have no desire that Cherokee should follow Greenville’s | example to holt the nominee of the party, hut we are compelled to con- | fess that thero are sometimes occa sions when we feel like we would have to do It to retain our self-respect and manhood. Nelson The Star Clothier. A Woman's Glad Heart. Cherokee, Nov. 18.—Hurrah for Cher- | okee! I am glad I live in Cherokee, j I am proud of our county. To be the first to stand for the right is an hon- | or and a distinction that Cherokee alone can claim. God bless those no ble men who voted for prohibition, and grant that not one may turn traitor to the cause. The whole country is now watching Cherokee. Will she stand by her colors and prove to the world, that so far as she Is concern ed, the law can and will be enforced? every good citizen will feel that the reputation of his county Is at stake, and will do his best to maintain it. We must make this a personal matter, and feel each, our individual responsibil ity. Cherokeean. The Voting Contest.
