The last case heard was Gaffney vs. Jefferies, for the recovery of land, which began Friday and continued through Sat urday. The result was a verdict for the defendant. Governor Heyward has been petitioned by the Cherokee bar for an extra term cf court for Cherokee, to begin Monday. Nov. S4th, and continue for three weeks, with Senator 1 lay or Hon. Jas. P. Carey as presiding judge. This extra term is asked for the pur pose of disposing of the large amount of business which was continued from the recent term. Mayor Gaffney had quite a crowd of law-breakers in his court yesterday morning, but there was no charge against any of them more serious than “drunk and disorderly”. The first case called was a plain drunk, and a fine of $1.50 or three day was im posed. Kd Parker and Dock Petty, two colored youngsters, were next on roll for disor derly conduct. They were found guilty and fined $1.50 each or three days on the gang. Parker paid. Armstrong Petty, M. B. Dawkins, Russell Petty and another small boy were arraigned for shining shoes without hav ing paid a license. The case against Armstrong Petty was dismissed, and the others were fined one dollar each or the alternative of two days on the street force. Joe Gaffney, colored, was next on docket for a plain drunk He got f.i .50 or three days. Two more drunks followed in quick succession, one receiving aAne of fi.50 or three days, and the other a Ipue dol- j lar. The latter paid his coin. The next case was a white man, cliarg ed with being drunk and disorderly and disturbing religious services at the tent, i He was “given” five dollars or ten days on the gang. Jones Littlejohn, colored, was fined one dollar or two days for riding a bicy cle on the street after dark without a I light.
