Some of the merchants are begin ning to get in their Christmas goods. There will be services at the Pres byterian church next Sabbath at 11 a. m. and 4:30 p. m. Quite a number of bales of cotton were sold on the Gaffney market yesterday, ten cents being the price for the best. County Chairman J. B. Bell re quests the commissioners of State and Federal elections to meet at his office tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 o’clock p. m. There will be preaching at Buford Street Methodist church Sunday at 11 a. m. and 7:30 p. m. Morning sub ject, “Church Loyalty;” evening sub ject, “Influence.” The fourth quarterly conference for Limestone Street will be held on October 22nd at 4 p. m., instead of October 16th. The presiding elder will preach Sunday night. Another train load of oyster packers from the north passed through Gaffney yesterday, bound for south ern cities along the coast. Several trains of a like nature have passed here within the last few days. There was another “scrap” yester day between two dusky amazons In the upper part of the city. No weap ons more dangerous than fists and finger nails were used, and, conse quently, neither received any very serious wounds in the affray. The combatants had the ground (a se cluded spot) all to themselves, and It Is to be supposed that they settled their grievances toward each other to the satisfaction of both. “A Royal Slave” which Is a future booking at the Star Theatre is to be one of the most Important events of the theatrical season In this city. The play which deals with life In Mexico about the time of the down fall of Maximilian, is said to b$ re markably interesting and has proven one of the greatest successes that the stage has known in many years. Complete special scenery Is carried for the entire play, and has been painted from photographs taken In Mexico especially for this production. The manager Is very fortunate In securing an attraction of this class and it is to be hoped that our theatre goers will show their appreciation of his efforts to provide them with abet ter class of amusements.
