New York, Aug. 31.—Leading in terests in the Southern Textile com pany. a proposed $20,000,000 textile combination are discussing, says The Journal of Commerce, plans looking to a reorganization of the company Nothing definite lias yet been deter rained on, but the fact that the con corn which is now in the hands of re ceivers, has comparatively few cred itors, who will, no doubt, facilitate any plan to reorganize the company All the stock in the enterprise, which originally intended to take over some thing life 40 concerns, was taken by parties personally interested. It suc ceeded in acquiring only four textile mills, all of which have been shut down except one, which has been running by the receivers. It has been reported that under the reorganization plan the reorganized capital stock will be scaled down from $20,000,000 to $300,000. Persons who are in a position to know say that it will take several weeks before any thing approaching a definite statement regarding the company’s future may be made public. Ancillary receivers have been appointed in these states; North Carol in. W. S. Whaley, James Holt; South Carolina, Walter M. Dun lap: Alabama and Missouri, W. G. Whaley. The receivers have qualified in all the states, and have taken possession of the property. Charleston, S. C., Man Fatally Sho<t at Memphis. Memphis, Tenn., Aug. 31.—Milton J. Sternberger. a traveling salesman, was tin- victim of a mysterious shooting af fair here and he is in a dying condi tion at a local hospital. His wife Is being held by the police pending an investigation. The Sternbergers live on Dunlap street. At an early hour Tuesday night Sternberger, who travels for a local soap manufactory, was packing a grip and, it is alleged, asked his wife toi a pistol which he had given her. Th< woman claims in a scuffle for posses sion of the weapon, it was accidental ly diesharged, inflicting what is sup posed to be a fatal wound in the back of the man’s head. Investigation showed that Sternber. g<-r had been wounded three times and at there shots were fired from the re volver, Mrs. Sternberger was taken k charge by the police. Sternberger came here from Charles ton. S. C., about five years ago. It ia said that he married there shortly ue fore coming to Memphis. New York, Aug. 31.—John Deikler. i w< 11-to-do builder, was shot and killed near his home in Glendale, borough oi Queens, by «n unidentified man wilt whom, the police said, he was engaged in a quarrel over politics. Deikler left home early las-t evening. Some hours later his wife and resi dents of the neighborhood were star tied by three shots. Mrs. Delklei ran Into the street, where she found her husband dying from a tniuet woutm in his head. A posse was quickly organized, but the assassin escaped, leaving no clew. Triple Tragedy. Stephens, Ark., Aug. 31.—A trlpl« tragedy occurred near Mount Holy Union county, in which one white man and two negroes were shot to man and two negroes were shot to death. Details are very meager, bui it is said that two negroes offered an indignity to a white woman. A mob unknown to the citizens of Mount Holly, went out on a hunt for the ne groes with the result that a stranger named Stover, together wit! a negro man and woman were killed. How About That Watch? Memphis, Aug. 31.—Sheriff Wil liamson, of Crittenden county, Arkan sas, who engaged in a pistol duel with former Sheriff Werner, at Marion on Monday last did not go to Marion to day. He went to Bridge Junction, Ark., just across the river from Mem phis, and gave bond for his appear ance on the wan ants issued for his ar rest.
