Singing, by the juniors. A LITTLE OUT OF JOINT. A St. Louis dispatch to the New York Times says: “Senator Tillman got the biggest ovation that anybody has yet received when he arrived to day. At the Jefferson hotel he made a triumphal progress down the lobby, with admirers by the hundreds, crowding around him to shake his hand. For several hours it was im possible for the Senator to move in any direction across the lobby in less than twenty minutes." Commenting on the above, the Greenville News says: “What is more, Senator Tillman has proved that he is a greater Democrat than some of his enemies might be willing to admit by refusing to take any part in the Bryan program and by standing out for a beter platform than the dead ones adopted by former conventions.” Which sounds pretty nice, but in view of the fact that Senator Tillman is such a bitter opponent of Mr. Cleve land, the following in the same col umn of the News appears a little out or joint: “The Cleveland demonstration in the Democratic convention yesterday ought to convince the delegates of the wisdom of nominating him for the presidency. Now in conclusion, you will not think that an anecdote will lie amiss, as you allow them in your speeches, about the mark set on Cain, and the voter that was at the election and took too much drink and went home to prayers with his family. Do you not think he needed some stimulant? Now do you not think if sin is to be driven from our world a piece at a time it would be better to begin where sin began and drive the whole female race from the world? Do you think that alcohol would soon lose its ef fects on sinful man? Do you not think that you could have much more trouble about the demon strong drink? There is some speculation as to what ef fect the result will have upon the business of the town. There need be no uneasiness on that score. The business will go along just the same, Those who want booze will get booze, those who do not want it will do with out it. Prohibition will not effect, either one way or the other. The closing of the saloons will add to the moral appearance of the town and will remove the temptation from the boys and young men, and is therefore a good thing enforced. We hope the authorities will enforce the law to the letter and thus give the world a practical demonstration of the ef fects of a proliibiion law carried out. If it’s a good thing we all want it.
