For the benefit of the Limestone Street Methodist church parsonage the ladies will serve ice cream and other refreshments in the front yard of L. D. Rippey’s residence Saturday evening next, beginning, at 7 o’clock. A pleasant social occasion is antici pated. The dry weather of the past few weeks is telling on the crops. The wheat and oats are materially af fected and the young plants are mak ing slow growth. Roper, of Spartanburg, delivered an address before the Grif- fith Literary Society of Limestone College Tuesday evening. His sub ject was Shakespeare, ami he handled it in a masterly manner and held the close attention of his large audience during the whole address. A young white man of this coun ty and a mule were plowing one fay this week and, not agreeing about the work in hand, the young man concluded he would impress his ideas on the mule by knocking it on the head with a rock. This he did, and killed it in its tracks. In doing this, in addition to the loss he entailed on his father, he, unthoughtedly no doubt, did a cruel act which he will regret as long he lives.
