Tommie, the little son of Dr. and Mrs. S. H. Griffith, had the misfor tune to stick a large splinter in his foot one day last week while playing around the house. The splinter was not taken out till Sunday, and the little fellow has been suffering much pain from his wound. He is now con fined to his bed, but we hope he may soon he up again. Fine Strawberries. Our thanks are due, and are here by tendered, Dr. W. A. Fort for a jar of excellent strawberries which ho kindly brought us Friday. The ber ries were large and well formed and extremely delicious in flavor, and with the addition of sugar and cream they made a dish fit for the gods. Let Us Celebrate. Gaffney, S. Montague Literary Society Resolutions. Whereas it has pleased God in his infinite wisdom to call from our midst our brother. Z. V. Gault, whom we had learned to honor and esteem for his noble qualities and manly vir tues, leaving to his friends and so ciety a memory to be reverred and cherished, and Whereas, realizing the beauty and strength of character he ever dis played in his life, the Montague So ciety deeply mourns the loss of the beloved brother; Therefore, be it resolved; First, that we bow in submission to His di vine will and say, “Thy will, O Lord, be done.” Second, that we, the members of the Montague Society, recognizing the true merit of our beloved friend and brother and feeling that we have sustained an irreparable loss, do take this opportunity of expresing our great sorrow and profound grief. Third, that we extend to his grief- stricken father and mother and en tire family our deepest sympthy in their hour of great grief. On last Friday the teachers of school No. 2 took their pupils and a few friends over to Providence church for a picnic and general good time. A bountiful repast was spread in the beautiful grove and all did ample justice to the many good things prepared. Prof, and Mrs. Shuford are doing a good work in school No. 2 as is shown by their re-election for another year. The year just ended is their third year, which speaks well of their good work there. We predict for them greater success the coming year than they have had in the past, though the past has been all that could be desired. Last Friday the members of the different Sunday schools in the city went down to Limestone springs and spent the day in pleasure and recre ation. Dinner was spread in the spring lot and was partaken of by everybody who felt like eating, whether he had taken a basket or not. A musical program had been ar ranged, and in the afternoon this was rendered in the auditorium of Lime stone College. A feature of the day was a ball game between the Berean and the Baraca classes. The game was hotly contested for one hour and thirty minutes, and resulted in a score of 14 to 7 in favor of the Bereans. The oatteries were; Bereans—Snead and Clary; Baracas—Lipscomb and Hamrick. Lawrence Wood, a veteran of the sport, umpired the game, and his decisions were rendered in a fair and impartial manner, and were sat isfactory to both sides. Limestone is an ideal place for a picnic, and the day was very pleas antly spent by everyone who took part in the festivities.
