The county board of registration was in session yesterday. Some Cherokee farmers planted part of their com crop last week. Mr. John W. Jones will represent the Presbyterian church at this meet ing of the Presbytery. All the brick masons in the city are about ready to go to work, aud this week will begin operations. The recent marvelous growth of wheat is commented on by progress ive farmers from all over the county. The county commissioners met in the supervisor’s office yesterday and transacted a good deal of routine busi ness. Cephas Littlejohn, colored, was badly cut in a row Saturday night by another negro, whose name was not learned. The cut negro will get well. The county hoard of control held its regular monthly meeting yester- dayday, and N. H. Littlejohn was elected chairman vice T. Davenport resigned. Protracted services in the Buford St. Methodist church. South, will im mediately follow the District Confer ence, which embraces the third Sun day in May. Rev. Geo. D. Herman of Kings Mountain, N. €., wil assist Every clay last week was a good day for field work, and from what we can learn from every quarter of the coun ty, we doubt if more work has been done in the same length of time in the county than was done during the clays of last week. The following is the honor roll of the third grade of the Gaffney graded school: Ruth Diggers, 99; Evelyn Hoard, 98; Ithiel Beam, 97; John Kendrick, 97; Kate Switzer, 96; Willie DeCamp, 95. The following is the good conduct roll of the same grade; Guy Sarratt, Layfaette Gaffney. Miss Grace Willis is teacher in this grade and the standing of her pu pils indicates that she is a careful and painstaking teacher. Popular Young Couple Wed. Mr. R. P. Roper, of Gastonia, N. C., and Miss Minnie Goforth, of this city, were married Sunday evening by Rev. J. B. Wilson at his home on East Frederick street. It was a very quiet wedding, only a few relatives and friends of the bride and groom being present. Mrs. Roper is one of Gaffney’s most attractive and popular young la dies and Mr. Roper is an energetic young business man with many friends in Gaffney. The happy cou ple left for the groom’s home the same evening. Dr. Smith to Lecture. Dr. Henry Louis Smith will speak at the Presbyterian church next Thursday night. His theme will be, “Christian Education.”. Dr. Smith is one of the most brilliant speakers in the country and the Gaffney people should by all means hear him. All are invited. Those who fail to grasp this opportunity to hear Dr. Smith will certainly miss a great opportu nity. He is unquestionably one of the foremost men of his day and time. Death of Miss Cantrell. Miss Venie Cantrell, of Boiling Springs, S. C., died yesterday after noon at 3 o’clock at Hen lersonville, N. C.
