(ft Eulogized by His Friends—Last Sad Rites Are Held Over Remains of Late United States Senator Mark A. Hanna. Washington, Fe». 17.—Wuuout pomp or ceremony the remains of Senator Hanna at 11:15 o’clock today were conveyed to the senate chamber, where the official exercises were to be conducted. The pallbearers were composed of a detachment of Capito. police under the command of a lieu tenant of the cortege, and was pre ceded by a platoon of mounted mili tia. Shortly after 10 o’clock the members of the family, with the exception oi Mrs. Hanna, took a last look at th< remains, and the casket was then sealed. Since the senator ;)as&et. away Mrs. Hanna has not seen the remains, she preferring to remember him as in life. The funeral procession was made up ot the hearse and eight carriages, the first six of which were occupied by members of the family, and the other by a committee representing the Grid- Iron club. Mrs. Prentiss Baldwin, ol Phomasville, Va., sister of Mrs. Hanna, and her husband and Bishop Leonard of Cleveland, arrived this morning snd rode in the family carriages. An imense crowd gathered in the vi cinity of the hotel and reverently re moved their hats as the casket was borne to the hearse. In the presence of the grief-stricken family many friends, whose sorrow was scarcely less pronounced, of the senate and house of representatives, of dignitaries from all the other branches of the government and ol l*te chief officials, representatives ol foreign powers, the funeral of the lau Marcuf A. Hanna ocurred today in th* senate chamber, the scene of his most recent activities and of his entire offi cial life. Seldom has a more distinguished body of people been collected in Wash ington to do honor either to the liv ing or the dead, and rarely has there been witnessed here a more impres sive scene. In the front rank of the eminent assemblage gathered immedi ately about the «Tr of the departeo statesman, sat the president. He was flunked by the members of his cabi net. Nearby were the, chief justice and the associate chief Justices <>t the supreme court of the United States, garbed in their black robes of office. 'There were scarcely any absentees Irom among the members of the sen ate, and the desk of their late col league was heavily draped. The hall was banked with flowers, which had been sent in great profu sion by friends. There was a large wreath of orchids surrounding a cross ol violets from the president. The senate contributed an immense wreath of orchids, carnations, roses and violets; the Republican Associa tion of Ohio, another, almost as large, and the Gridiron club, of this city, another, which was of striking beauty IMPORTANT MEDICAL DISCOVERY. In each of the other cases the pains stopped immediately, and several sufferers were released trom the morphine habit, which had been forced upon them. REBELS ROUTED. Government Force* In San Domingo Repulse Rebel Attack. Now York, Feb. 17.—A savage at tack on the city of Santiago has result ed in the complete routing of the rebels by the government forces, says a Her ald dispatch from Puerto Planta, Santo Domingo. Many were killed and wounded on both sides. For some time an attack has been expected. On Tuesday, the revolu tionists entered the city unmolested until they reached the government house. Then the government forces opened fire. The rebels answered ano the battle raged for several hours. Polin Espaillat, one of the rebei leaders, fell with a bullet wound that broke his leg. Panchito Perez and many other rev olutionists were killed, and seeing that their attack was futile, the rebels fled, closely pursued by the government soldiers. Espaillht was left on the field < battle and was made a prisoner by tin government troops. It was unearthed by peasants dig ging a foundation for a farm house at the loot of 11 Capitano Hill, beneath wnicb the road from Monteleone leads to Norcia, the ancient Etruscian city of Nursia, 14 miles from Vitrobo. President Rhinelander, ot the Met ropolitan, said: "The ‘biga’ or chariot, is one of our most valued pieces of ancient arti- sanship, and thought to be the only specimen of that early period in ex istence.” Jacob Rodgers, the millionaire loco motive manufacturer, purchased it for the museum shortly before his death. Tuskegoe, Ala., Feb. 17.—The chap el oi the Tuskegee institute was filled to over-flowing with negro farmers trom North Carolina, South Carolina. Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Louisi ana and Alabama. B. T. Washington called the thirteenth annual Tuskegee negro conference to order at 10 o'clock this morning. Many others represent ing all the negro schools ot the sou and various philanthropic efforts for the upbuilding of the negro were also present. After Searching 12 Years Securities Are Found by Heiress. New York, Feb. 17.—A tortune in high-class railroad bonds has been found by the granddaughter and heir ess of Thomas Wilson, of Westchester, alter a search of 12 years. When Wilson died, no trace of his wealth could be found, although hf waS known to possessed ot a consid erable fortune accumulated in build- ir ing. The engineer, Charles Herbert, and Fireman William For man, both of Philadelphia, were killed Schooner on the Rocks. Victoria, B. C., Feb. 17.—The three- masted schooner Emma Utter, with 300,000 feet of lumber from Gray’s Harbor to San Francisco, which ^clear ed Aberdeen Feb. 7, was sighted on the rocks at Barclay entrance. Cap tain Henson and five of the crew abaned the vessel on the 11th instant, leaving Seaman Henry Byndall on board. Byndall was rescued by two Indians today.
