St. John, X B , Canada, Sent. 12,1903: The large audience at the Opera House lust night enjoyed a rare treai in Simvelle’s elaborate scenic revival of Shakespeare’s immortal Romeo and Juliet. The company which has scored a big success in tne lead ing cities of the United Stalls, pre sented the play in a magnificent manner, showing excellent stage management. As Romo Louis .M Mortelle delighted the audience, while Louise Clarke as Juliet was all that could be desired, playing the part in an effective manner. De- Guerre, as the Friar, represented that oharacter to great advantage. Thej were abiy supported by the rest of the cast, who were especially well selected. The scenery was beautifal and the costuming particularly at tractive. The piuy will be repeated this afternoon and evening and all lovers of the pure high class drama are sure to attend.” The Gazette, St. John N. B , same date as above: ‘‘A large audience was present at the Opera House lact night to witness Simvelie’s scenic revival of Shake speare’s love play, Romeo and Juliet, aid everybody went away well pleased for in the cast of characters there were clever people. Special mention must be made of Louie Clarke as Juliet and Louis M. Mor telle as Romeo. The parts were never rendered better in this city. They were ably supported by the balance of the cast.” From the Transcript, Fredorick- tnn, N. B , Canada, date of Sept, 9, 1003: “The Simvelle presentation of Shakespeare's immortal love tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, drew a large audience at the Opera House last night. It was an excellent produc tion and the company was deserving of the large audience. Juliet, por truyed by Miss Louise Clarke, was well represented, us was also Romeo, in the hands of Louis M. Mortelle. 1 he supporting company was superb and the scenery, costumes and elec trie effects were fine.” The Famous “Rogers” in vaude ville will be at the theatre on Dec. 11 This famous company played a six w'eoks engagement at Youngs Bier, Atlantic City. N J., the beginning of the season and have been booked for a return date of two weeks later on. Manager Knox bus hooked the “DoraThorne.” Such plays as these Is proof positive that Gaffney is getting the best of theatrical productions.
