A aeries of Protracted aervicea will be held at the First Baptist church, commeDCiDg next Sunday and con* tinuing two weeks. Two services will be held each day, naorning and night, and some special services will be held at Limestone College. To all these services the public is cordially invited. * Dr. Jasper C. Massie, of Raleigh N. G., will do the preaching. He Is one of the most brilliant and consecrated young ministers in the Southern States, having held some of the most responsible pastorates North and South. At present be is at the head of the Baptist Tabernacle System in Raleigh, N. C., where he is doing a great ministry leading that magnifi- oient institution to larger endeavors than it has yet attempted. He has the largest Sunday school in North Carolina, and preaches to the largest congregation in the State. He is not a professional evangelist, and has no “clap-trap” methods; but for plain gospel preaching straight from the shoulder few, if any, excell him. He has been much blessed in revival work, aud we trust that not only the church, but the whole town and com munity will be stirred and blessed by bis ministry in the power and demon stration of the Spirit of God. The sweet fraternal spirit between the different denominations, as mani fested during the revival recently held at the Presbyterian church, will, we are sure, be duplicated iu these meetings at the Baptist oburoh. The ministers of the town have already assured Pastor Cree of their purpose to cooperate heartily iu the services. May all Christians do the same. Verdict of the Coroner’* Jury. Promptly after the killing of Wal ter Davis, Thursday, iu the finishing mill the company summoned Coroner Vinesett, who came to the city, and summoned, and empaneled a jury composed of B. G. Clary, N. H. Lit tlejohn, Jones J. Darby, W. B. Du- Pre, D. H. Hall, James Jones, J. E. Harratt, J. F. Finoken, Wm. Wilson, K. 0. Huskey, and W. L Morgan. Mr. Morgan was appointed foreman. After viewing the body, the jury was carried to the court house, where the testimony wae taken. The jury then rendered the following verdict We, the jury, find that the deceased, Walter Davis, came to his death in the finishing plant of the Gaffney, Manufacturing Company, by having his head erusbed between the eleva tor and beam of the third floor, through his own carelessness." Gaffney is to be congratulated on having procured an excellent Lyceum course from the Dixie Lyceum Bu reau through our Library Associa tion. All profit made ou this cause goes direct to the Library fund. In procuring a season ticket you spend for pleasant and profitable evenings at a nominal cost and at the same time help to uplift our town and to swell the Library fund. Very few tows the size of Gaffney are without a Lyceum course and we hope this is only a beginning and that we may procure a non extensive course each season as the years go by. Within the next few days you will be called upon and asked to procure season tickets, Do not discourage the management by saying no, but procure your tick ets thereby saving at least one half the cost. The first number—The American Saxophone Quartette and Concert Company (six people) comes to us about October 26th and is con sidered very fine.
