Varin & Turenne, Roman Ax« Manipulators, in their thrilling and pntuituuonal as well as daricg act, will be seen at each and every performance of The Great Barlow Minstrels who visit this city next Tnurrday for a one-night engagement at the Star Theatre. The wonderful ability displayed by these gentlemen, demonstrates the constant practice and concentration ol thought neces sary to Jacquire such wonderful profi ciency of action in their exhibition of ambidexterity. They have but recently been engaged as one of the features which form the strong olio with this organization immediately upon their arrival in this country from London, England. Webster’s abridged definition of the word “Minstrelsy” is—“Art, or oc cupation of a minstrel; system of ballads; music; a company of mu sicians.” But the way he should de fine it now is as follows:—Gorgeous, magnificent in scenic embellish ments; songs that are witty, wise aud charming; personal grace with beauty to charm; an amusement ex hibition containing all that is novel, grand and beautiful; matchless in grandeur, and fun without a blush, provoking long and loud laughter, with humor without a taint; the cleanest and best of all amusements. The above definition forms a brief synopsis of the many good things in The Great Barlow Minstrels. In point of aumbers, embellish ments and general equipment, and with a roster second to none, this company deserves the right to the ti tle of costliest, richest and best. This is the oldest organization of its kind on the road today, and biars the proud distinction of being the best in itsj particular line, its past reputa tion which has been fully demonstra ted, has, proven it a first class company composed of the leading '.black-face” comedians, presenting your money’s worth to better advan tage than any other similar company extant. True charity begins at home, but It dosen’t end there. A Good Colored Farmer. It was Doc Waison, a colored ten- ant on Mr. S. Q. Sarratt’s place, who sold the first bale of cotton in Chero- i kee county, and not Mr. Sarntt him self, as reported in last Friday’s Led ger. Mr. Sarratt informs The Ledger that Doc has been with him for a numbar of years and is a first-class i tenant in every respect, and that is to be believed for if he was a “trifling nigger” Sam wouldn’t put up with him. Doc has a good crop this year, and although his crop ia not what he ex-1 pected, he will make about ten bales tbis year. If all the darkeys wore like Doc our friends in the North and West would be indeed bard pressed for a negro problem to solve, because of the fact that there would be no negro prob lem. There is no clew as to who did the job. Fresb Flour all the Time.
