The people of Gaffney and vicinity will have an opportunity to show their appreciation of a good thing in the line of amusements this week. Here tofore the effort has been along the line of the very best high-priced attractions. In the future it will be along the line of the best high-class attractions at the most popular prices. Seats are now on sale for the Who What When Minstrels that will be seen at the Star Theatre tomorrow evevning. The company comes with the prestige of being America’s rep resentative minstrel organization. Watch for the street parade at 11:30 a. m. Of this organization the Pittsburg Dispatch says: ‘‘A new minstrel organization, styled the Who What When Mins trels, made a popular bid for public favor at the Duquense Theatre last night, and at once jumped into popu lar favor with the large audience present. The witticisms of the end men were up-to-date and refreshing, while there was not a single dull moment during the whole of a large and excellent olio. The vocalism of the different members of the first part was far above the average of minstrel companies. The engage ment is for all week, with matinees Wednesday and Saturday.” Thursday, Friday, Saturday after noon and Saturday night the Middle- ton Stock Company will hold the boards. This is a popular price com pany. playing at 10, 20 and 30 cents. Now do not for a moment think this is a cheap organization because the price is low. This company only plays in the large cities. Last week they played in Charlotte, next week they go to Jacksonville, Fla. It simply happened that they had a week off and rather than remain idle for a week the local management in duced them to put in three nights at Gaffney. It is the desire of the local management to pack the theatre for each of these performances and as a further inducement they are going to give away a handsome present at each performance. On Saturday J. G. RATLIFF, Prop. afternoon three presents will be given away, one to a lady, one to a little girl and one to a boy. These presents are not to be voted to the most popular person, but the coupons for the seats will be placed in a hat and some one from the audience will be requested to shuffle them up and some one else asked to draw out one number. The person holding the seat corresponding to that uumber will get the prize. The Charlotte Observer, a paper not given to flattery, says of the Middleton Stock Company: “The Middleton Stock Company presented the comedy drama, ‘A Hero of the World,’ to an apprecia tive audience last night at the opera house. This is undoubtedly the strongest popular priced organization that has been here this season, and deserves a large patronage from the theatre-going public of Charlotte. Mr. Charles Middleton and Miss Blanche Leighton take the leading parts, as well or better than some of the stars have been doing in a much higher-priced show.” This company will present Thurs day night “Pike County Folks,” Fri day night "Faust,” Saturday Matinee "East Lynne,” and Saturday night “John Martin’s Secret.” Reserved seats for this attraction will be placed on sale each morning at 9 o’clock at The Ledger office. Notice is here given that the next person creating any - disturbance whatever in the gallery will be arres ted. We trust that the boys will heed this because we would bate to see any of them get into trouble. A Coming Marriage. A man named Hourivieff has been arrested in St. Petersburg on the charge of murdering his wife by pierc ing her brain through the ear with a strong, long hatpin. A Quiet Crowd Saturday. Saturday was a fine day and quite a number of Cherokee’s fair daugh ters and worthy men were in the city —all apparently on business bent, and a more quiet crowd baa seldom gotten together in any city. The farmers were in good humor and generally spoke of sowing wheat and good corn crops. Our business men report good sales. It’s a pretty sick woman that won’t get up out of bed to go down to re ceive a caller, that she knows will have a choice bit of scandal. An average Britisher is as strong as two Hindoos.
