Henry Ityars Killed by Wash Lipscomb on

Democratic County Convention.
Notice Is hereby given to carli and every
Democratic Club in Cherokee <'ounty. to as
semble at their respective places of meeting,
uu Saturday, tire ititii of April at twoo’clqpk,
p. m., for the purpose of electing delegates
to a County Convention which is hereby
called to meet In the Court House at Gaff
ney, at II o’clock, a. m.. on Monday the 5th
of May I'.nrJ, for the purp'ise of electing a
member of the State Execut ive Committee,
a County Chairman, and abo to elect six
delegates to the State Convention which will
meet in the city of Columbia on the 21st day
of May ll'O’J. and also for the transaction of
such other business as may come properly
before tin- convention.
The County Convention shall be composed
of delegates elected by the several clubs of
the county, one delegate for every twenty-
live members of the club, and one member
for every majority fraction thereof.
All persons known to lie Democrats may
vote in said precinct election. Each pre
cinct will elect a member td serve on the
Executive Committee of the county, and all

the ensuing campaign.

A number of witnesses were sworn,
most of whom seemed to indicate
that the shooting was done with
apparent little provocation. But it
also became apparent that there was
a feud of long standing between
Byars and the Lipscomb family, the
result of Byars having seduced one of
Lipscomb’s daughters.
The jury continued in session till
late Saturday night and adjourned
until Sunduy morning, when it held
a short session and returned a verdict
charging Wash Lipscomb with the
killing and Paul and rtiias Lipscomb
with being accessories, and directed
that they all be held for court.
Wash Lipscomb was raised in this
section and has always born a good
character. Byars was also raised
here.

The punch bowl was presided over j
by Misses Nellie Wood and Agnes
Littlejohn. After the hour the
guests departed wishing for this
couple a prosperous voyage on their
crystal sea.

party were: Mrs. Garrett in white
organdie trimmed in ribbon, she car
rying lilac and white hyacinths; Mrs.
Lula Garrett in pink chiffon and rib
bon, carrying pink hyacinths; Mies
Freeman Garrett in blue chiffon and
ribbons, with white flowers; Miss
Brohawn in white organdie, satin rib
bons with white flowers; Dr.J Garrett
being in the conventional black.
