John A. Lee Dead. Maj John A. Lee, of Spartanburg, an old and highly respected citizen and successful business man, well known to many Ledger readers, died at his residence on Spring street in Spartanburg on the 7th inst. He will be missed in the religious, social aod business circles in Spartanburg, and by bis numerous friends in Spar tanburg and Cherokee and other counties in the State. G. B. Humphries, of Cleveland county, N. C., was in the city yester day on business. Capt. J. J. Magness, of Grassy Pond, was in the city on business Wednesday. Hon. Wm. Jefferies spent a short time in the city Wednesday. The many friends of Capt. J. F. Gregory in Gaffney and Cherokee county will regret to learn that he has severed bis active connection with the Live Stock Company, and has gone to his home in Lancaster. We wish he had stayed with us. White PIhIuh School. Miss Maude Thompson’s school at White Plains has increased so much in the number of pupils under her management that the trustees have employed Miss Maggie Bryant to as sist her. The White plains people are fortu nate in securing the services of such accomplished and efficient teachers as Misses Thompson and Bryant and the good results that will follow their work will show the wisdom of the trustees in their selection of teach ers and be of lasting good to the pu pils and community.
