II. Mercer. I)**ath has ai'aiii entered the home of Mr and Mrs Vv Ji Mercer, ol Uiit j city, and removed forever little I Joseph B , their only remainintr cherub in whom was centered .11 their love, tneir pride, their j >v ai d their hope, since from the ravages of disease and death it whs all that was left them to lavish their undivided affections upon, and with his prattle and smile brin* sunlight to the hearts which have often before been clouded with sorrow. Surely their cup of grief is full to overflowing! Only a short time ago Mr. and Mrs Mercer suffered the loi^s of their litiie Homer and almost ere the first great pang was over, another blow full* heavily upon them, inflicting a wound for which there is no healing lotion and only the roiling years may bring a balm to soothe its pain. Seven of this devoted family now are gone out into the great unknown beyond, ana it is not a matter for wonder that the hearts of the remaining members ar. crushed and broken—broken, yet live on to endure the pain which mem ories of a happy past, wherein their once cherished hopes lie buried, must ever bring to them. Jcseph B. was just five years old,and was a very bright, sweet child. He had been ill about two months with a complication of diseases, but at times he appeared to be so much bet- ! ter that strong hopes were entertained. : for his recovery. Just before he died i lie was unusually bright, and asked for a comb that he might comb his hair remarking about the same time that he would like to have some wings so ihst he could go to the angels, or words to that effect. But the Reaper had marked him for the harvest, and at 10:30 o’clock Thursday night the little fellow breathed his last. The body was embalmed and taken to King’s Mountain where on Sunday it was placed beside the little brother who went on a short time before. One particularly sad and pathetic feature connected with this death, as with that of the other child, is th%t the father, Mr. Mercer, is away in the far west and could not see his children before they died. The hearts of our entire commun ity go out in deepest sympathy for this stricken family. The ^normous a IS STB I ►74, f I FOR SPOT CASH.
