Gambltna Caught. There is in Galfney as in most other towns an idle gang of of white and negro boys, who spend their time in gambling and general misconduct. This crowu in Gatlney is a source of great annoyance to peop'e in the suburbs of the city. Lately to avoid the city authorities they have mad» their resorts just outside the city limits. T‘ is fact cam^ to the knowl edge of Sheriff Thomas, and he and the city police have been laying for them. Wednesday it was ascertained that the sport was going on in the Scruggs pasrure, and the Sheriff and Chief Camp and Office Hallman, Barnet Lipscomb and Sam Morgan, made a drive for this annoying and useless gang. The result of which was, three young white men and two younc negro .nen were caught and carried be»ore Magistrate Phillips who bound them over to court in the sum of two hundred dollars each. In default of the bonds all five were committed to jail to await trial One young white fellow, by Nancy Hanks strides, made his escape. A Serious Accident. Wednesday afternoon while at work on the large building being erected for the manufacture of cotton mill supplies, to escape some falling tim bers Mr. Wm. Scoit Byars, one of our good citizens and hard working carpenters, was compelled to jump from a gangway which was used to convey material to the top of the building from which he received seri ous injuries. Dr J. N Nesbitt wus called and was soon with the suffering man aod found the injuries principally in the feet and lower limbs, and while they are severe and painful Dr Nesbitt hopes they will not be permanent. The doctor left Mr Byars about mid night Wednesday night, at which time he was comparatively comfor table. The sympathy for Mr Byars in the city is general and his many friends sincerely hope that he may have a speedy recovery.
