Work to ho Commenced at Onee I |><>n a •2A.OOO Cotton Mill Suply Mill. That Gatfnoy never lags id a well known fact to all people who are acquainted with the town. Just ad soon .as one enterprise is established and well Under way .another is started. Sometime ago'a Northern concern began a correspondence with Mr. Hugo S. DodenholT concerning the establishment of a factory for the manufacture of supplies for cot ton mills, such as bcjbbins, rollers, cans, etc., such articles as are in constant use in cotton mills and ail of which are being bought from the northern manufactuttr. Asa con sequence of that correspondence the nterested parties visited (iailoey and met the enterprising citizens of this place. After a conference the par ties decided that they would locate in Gaffney provided Gaffney would encourage them to a certain extent. Their terms were named and were agreed to. All this took several months and while The hedger was aware of the matter it was not at liberty to lot the facts be known. Last week Mr. Jas. VV. brock came to Gaffney and selected the site and let the contract fur the building to Contractors Baker and Cecil A Cur ry. The site of the plant is just beyond the himestone Cotton .Mills and lies directly between the South ern and S. C. <fe G. K. R. It. It is a beautiful location and they have purchased twelve acres of land, with an option on some more. The land was purchased of Mr. W. (). hip- soomb. Messrs. Oecil <St Curry yesterday began to haul brick for the building. The building will be two stories high and f>0xl2l) feet. Th£.c*p , ftfal invested will be $2'),- CCTfor the present with a probability of an increase in the immediate future. The investors do not ask Gaffney people to take a single dollar of the stock. In fact it will practi- cafly be a private concern. Mr. Jas. Wl Brock, of Boston, will be the general manuger. Mr. Brock is a ywng man, hut when he left Gaffney law Saturday it was with the inten- tiin of carrying out a contract he hill made with a young lady some tile ago and which was drawing nar. He will, gf course, bring his yang wife to Gaffney. Mr. Brock wl receiy^ a warm welcome in Gaff- and we trust his wife will find it ileasant that she may never re- havn gn DEERINQ Movers and Rakes, Disc Harrows and Superior Drills are next in order. It was the occa sion of Rev. \V. S. B. Ford’s farewel sermon to his congregation before leaving Gaffney to take up his work at Cambridge, Md., and although the weather was unpropiteous the large edifice was filled to its utmost capa city. Mr. Ford chose as his text Acts 20:32: “And now, brethren, I commend you to God and the word of his grace which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among them which are sanctified.” Mr. Ford spoke with much feeling and there were times in the course of his farewell address when there were few dry eyes in the building. The music was especially spirited and during the rendering of “God be with you ’till wo meet again,” the congregation went forward and shook the hand of the departing pas tor and told him good-bye. Mr. Ford closed the service that way and without the usual benediction. Mr. Ford left yesterday at 4:30 for Winnsboro, where he will visit rel atives for a few days. From there he will go to Chester for a few days, aod theii hejgoefl to Blythewood, where he will conduct a meeting before departing for Cambridge, leaving for the latter place after the fourth Sun day in this month. Mr. Ford goes away from Gaffney hearing the good, wishes of all who have ever known him here. He is a splendid preacher and a good man and the church that has called him is to be congratulated, while the one that has been, called upon to give him up is to be sympathized with. We admired him for his open, frank manner and his sunshiny nature and were glad to count him as among our friends and wish him well wherever he may go. The Ledger will follow him to Cambridge 'o: he says he loves GalToey and all her people and desires to keep posted as to her doings. MiirrifMl at State I.lne. Mr. Will Hardin and Miss Charity Biggerstaff, of Caroleen, N. C., crossed over into this State Sunday morning and stopped at the home of genial and obliging Philip Ray, of State Line, and in a few moments that worthy pronounced a life sen tence on them that will either be for the better or the “worser.” We hope it will ha for the better. May they live long and prosper will be the wish of their many young friends. In cases of congh or croup give the little one One Minute Cotfgh Cure.
