Tomorrow is the day that the great political gun is to be tired in Cherokee county. The interest in the meeting here is attracting no lit tle attention throughout South Car- lina, and even our neighbors are be coming concerned in the matter. It is a settled fact that both Senators McLaurin and Tillman will be here, and it Is more than probable that there will be a joint debate, as the probabilities favor one. Senator Tillman feels that Senator McLaurin is afraid of him, while Senator Mc- J,Hiirin declares his independence of any man and avows that he fears no one. And thus the matter stands. There is but one proper course for anyone to pursue, and that is to go bear both aides of the argument. Give both that careful consideration due weighty matters and then make \ip your mind to do what your better judgment tells you is for the best in- tereat-of yourself and those associated with you, having due regard for the welfare of all. The speaking will take place at the court house, com mencing at 12:30, and every effort will be made to accommodate all those who desire to attend. A cordial in vitation is extended the ladies to be present and it is hoped that quite a number will be present. The beat of order will be maintAlncd. Senators 'liiiman and McLaurin both make the request that their friends will be courteous and that they will indulge in no bulldozing tactics. The Ledger has the assurance of the friends of both that the meeting will be con ducted upon the highest piano. Sena tor McLaurin will speak first, Sena tor Tillman next and Senator Mc Laurin to have the reply. The Led ger is a newspaper first, last and ali the time, therefore' it refrains from expressing an opinion in its locil col umns further than to say that it has a perfect abhorenco of politics upon the common ground that only those are benefitted who receive the offices and that it creates strife and bitter ness between people who otherwise would be friendly and congenial. And yet it becomes the duty of every true citizen to assume the responsi bility of government and he can only do that by doing bis duty. Let all who can, go out to hear the speaking, but ^bove all bridle your tongues af ter it ib over and let each man make □p bis own mind without the aid and consent of petty politician whoso only interest is to get a political job. Business sterns to be picking up a little at the city’s seat of justice; but the chaingang has not received any benefit from the recent trans actions, insomuch as the business was strictly cash. A drunk or two constituted the docket for the week up to yesterday morning, at which time a change came over the spirit of the proceed ings and a scrapping match came up for the consideration of Mayor Little-, John. Mose Mashaw and his wife and John Williams and his wife, ail colored, had a slight raixup Wednes day evening in which nothing more serious occurred than some loud talking and a few bloody threats on each side to do certain impossible things provided certain other impos sible things were resorted to by the other side. It developed in the course of the hearing that the trouble was all on account of an obsetreperous and unregenerated colored youth, a step son of John Williams, who no doubt needed more “chastising” than he was physically able to bear, but whose grandmother, Trueiove Mashaw, streunously objected to his being “chastised”—so John claimed. An attempt on the part of John’s mother to take him from the home of his devoted and considerate grandmother was the bsginning of the row which followed. As no one was hurt, and as one side seemed to be about as much at fault as the other, the mayor dis missed the case—and John escaped the “chastising.” The last case on docket was against a colored sport far beating a train on the Southern railroad, or for stealing a ride on the train. He was fined one dollar or five days on the gang. He paid the dollar.^ Biliousness is a condition charac terized by a disturbance of the diges tive organs.
