What They Say About.... Harris Lithia Water: Mr. J. T. Harris: Dear Sir I have found the use of the water from your Lithia Spring in South Carolina so efficacious In the case of a young lady pa tient of mine, who has suffered for years with Diabetes, with all Its different attendants, that I want to add my testimonal to the many you already have. The patient I refer to has used the water freely at home for scarcely a month now, with more beneficial results than from months spent at different Hilda springs In different parts of the United Slates, besides long continued use of the same waters at home. Other of my patients and friends are now using the same with best results. I cordially recommend it to all suff ering from similar diseases. Very respectfully yours, Thomas S. Powem,, M. D. Pres. Southern Medical College, Atlanta, Ua, “The Harris Lithia Water Is, In my opinion, unexcelled for those ailments miulring the salts it contains. “Thbo. Lamb, M. D„ “Professor Diseases of Chest and Principal of Medicine, Medical Department, Univer sity of Georgia." Ahhevilmc, N. c., April 24, 1803.—An ex tended clinical use of the Harris Lithia Wa ter prompts me to the statement that I re gard it as one of the best. If not the best, Lithia Water known to the profession. In the condition of Phosphatlc Urine, Its action Is marvelous. Its use In the Rheumatic and Gouty diseases afford me more comfort than either the Buffalo or Londonderry Waters. Very truly yours, John Hiy William, M. D. Baltimoub. M. D„ Juno24,1896. J. T. Harris, Esq., Harris Spring, S. 0( Dear Kir—I have been using Harris Lithia Water for some time, and I will say to you that It Is my opinion that the Harris Lithia Water Is l»y far the best Lithia Water that 1 have ever used, and that It has done mo a great deal of good, and 1 think It a most val uable remedy. R. O. Hoffman, Pres. 8. A. L. R. R. Harris Lithia Carbonated Water Is guaran- teed to cure the worst case of Indigestion if taken after each meal. One glass of R will relieve you immediately. SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY. There In no Good Reason Why Yon Khonld Not Vote For Tho New Itoml Inhiio. Ah will be Been by reference to an advertisement in another column un election will bo held in this city next Monday for the purpose of deter mining whether or not additional bonds to the extent of $15,000 will be issued for the purpose of improv ing and extending the water wonts and electric light plants of Gaffney. Gaffney is growing rapidly and that the present water works and electric light plants are inadequate no one who is at all acquainted with the facts will deny. As matters now stand the electric light plant is taxed to its utmost capacity and there are demands for more light. Tho water works mains are confined to a narrow compass because of the lack of funds to extend the mains at the time the plant was put in. It is the highth of folly to stop where we are. With a growing town and an increased demand for water and lights we cannot afford to stop. Vote the bonds and by one stroke advance the plant to the needs of the town for some years to come. Certainly no one can afford to vote against the bond issue. To demonstrate the fact that it cannot in any wise effect the pocketbook of a single individual we will ask this question: Is there a man in Gaffney who feels the effects of the previous bond issues? We do not believe there is a single individual who does. Besides, those of us who have lights and water should be wil ling to vote for the bond issue to give lights and water to those who have them not and yet pay as much taxes as those who enjoy the benefits. Vote the bond issue and keep Gaffney in the front rank of progress. 1’rof. Brown to be Choir MaHter. The music committee of the First Baptist church has secured the ser vices of Mr. Wade R. Brown, director of the school of music at Limestone College, as organist and choir master for this coming year. A chorus choir as large as the choir loft will accommodate has been orga nized and is composed of the follow ing well known singers: Sopranos, Misses Minnie Ca.’roll, Eva Ross and Mrs. W. C. Carpenter; Altos, Mrs. L. U. Campbell, Mrs. Virginia Copeland, Miss Annie John son ; Tenors, Messrs. H. K. Osborne and Walter Humphries; lassos, Messrs. Julian Lipscomb, Ishom Richardson and Wofford Humphries. It was the desire of the cho r mas ter that there should be a much larger choir, as there are many excel lent voices in the church, but owing to the limited capacity of the ahoir loft no more can be seated. \ Mr. Brown is an experienced church organist and choir conductor and it is expected that tho music at this churcb|this coming year shall be an important feature of each service. Two Old Friends Meet. Mr. D, A. Brewton, of near Wood ruff, in Spartanburg county, was in the city Saturday visiting Doctors Crawley and Nesbitt. Mr. Brewton is an old boyhood friend of Capt. Griffith’s and they had the pleasure of meeting each other Saturday and of talking over ‘’old times,” when they used to visit Limestone before the war to get a ‘‘peep” at Dr. Curtis’ pretty girls. Capt. Griffith had two sisters in the college at that time, but Mr. Brewton was not so fortunate, so he had to come to see some other fel low’s sister—if he could. It was a warm meeting and a warm parting between these two old friends of ante-bellum days, and the occasion no doubt called up many memories of brighter days which had been ly ing dormant in their bosoms for forty long years. Mr. Brewton's visit was a hurried one, and he returned to bis home Sunday morning. Court CIoNt-H. The case of J. L. Perry vs. The Gaffney Carpet Manufacturing Co., resulted in a mistrial. We are in formed that in this case tho jury stood eleven for the Carpet Mill to one against it. The jury remained out until Friday night and all efforts to reach a verdict proved futile. There were a number of equity cases disposed of during the term but none that will be of particular interest to the publia. On account of the amount of time consumed on the criminal docket and the two cases against the Carpet Mill there still remained a large num ber of cases on the docket undisposed of. Because of this the members of the Cherokee bar have petitioned Gov ernor McSweeney to order a special term of court to commence the sec ond Monday in November. It is ex pected the request will be granted. Election Manager* Tran*a«-t HuNlnesa. The Wtate and Federal managers of election for Cherokee county mot in this city yesterday at the office of Butler & Osborne for the transaction of the business that cornea before them and for the appointment of the managers for the general election held the first Tuesday in November. Messrs. C. A. Spencer, R. P. Scruggs and W. D. Gaston are the State com missioners, while Messrs. J. E Mob- teller, Luther Bonner and Jeff. D. Hughes act in a like capacity for Uncle Samuel. The result of their labors is tuld in the advertisement in another column calling the election. T|i« Athletic Kiitertaluinent. The entertainment which was to have been given in the Opera House last Wednesday night, but which was postponed for the reason that the court jurors occupied the house that night, will come off on Friday night, the 20th lost., at the samo place. 1’lease remember the date. CRAWLEY & CO., General Agents for Gaffney and Vicinity. A Candy Fulling- There was an old time candy pull ing Saturday night at the hospitable home of Mr. G. F. Browning near the carpet mill. Aside from the ‘‘pull ing” dancing to tho strains of good music and numerous plays were in dulged in and a general free-and-easy and jolly good time was the order of the occasion. Some of our young lovers of fun attended from the city as well as some from the cotton mill, and all who went enjoyed themselves immensely. A Fiilnful Accident. John Scales, who works at Mr. George Lemaster’s cotton gin, had the misfortune to have two lingers of his right hand torn off yesterday morning. He was working around tlie engine and in some way had his hand caught in a part of the ma chinery, with the result as above staled. The wound was promptly dressed, and we hope that he may soon have the use of his hand again.
