Gooding, representing the Norwich 1'nion Fire Insurance Com pany, has presented Mr. H. F. Gaffney with a check for $85 in settlement for damages sustained on the morn ing of October 27th at the Gaffney fire. It took four days to arrange matters satisfactorily. • The local appraisers fixed the damage at $00 but the company was satisfied that Mr. Gaffney's loss was t( ally more and paid him accordingly. This knocks the tune out of that old song and dance about the meanness of Insurance Companies. The lib- erately and promptness of the Nor wich I nion in this case bears out the claim of their agent, W. H. Gooding— that there are others just as good but absolutely none better. Reply to Raetielor’n Regret. [Written for The Ledger.] You say that in comfort and plenty You’ve passed the liest days of your life, And now you're a bankrupt old fossil, You’re wishing you’d married a wife. No female has squandered your income On feathers and laces and show. Then how In the name of creation Has your hank account dwindled so low? No woman is going to maintain you. And on you. a hyjiochondriae wait, So yirrrslimv quite a good bit of wisdom When you mournfully cry "It’s too late.” But, friend. I've been told it is never too late To timl the star which shines for us alone. So don't get discouraged, but circulate around. Ami make yourself a cozy little home. Mrs. Crocker Moves totiafTuey. Gaffney is delighted to welcome Mrs. Crocker and her family and we all wish that their sojourn in our midst may bo fraught with pleasure and profit. It will not be a surprise to any who are at all familiar with the good qualities of Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy, to know that people every where take pleasure in relating their experience in the use of that splen did medicine and in telling of the benefit they have received from it, of bad colds it has cured, of threat ened attacks of pneumonia it has averted and of the children it has saved from attacks of croup and whooping cough.
