The Safety Well Fixture, trolled bV The Safety Well Fixture Co., of Blacksburg, S C- A Soulhern invention and inauufacture. Over in.lNioiii use since lliey were placed on tho market. As a water elevator it. lias the following merits: It Is labor saving, and is the • implest st riu-t ure for raising water on the market. It Is easily adjusted to any well or cis tern. as It has no attachment to any part of the well below flu- platform. It is the most durable Fixture for tin- purpose iu use. It is substantially constructed, and the buckets never come In contact wi<h each other or the sides of the well, and the groove provided in the wheel is so arranged as ky produce hut little friction on the rope and none 011 the pulley. It Works Easy. Tho buckets balance each other, so the only resistance to overcome is the weight of the water iu one bucket: hence it, is the only struct ure that will raise water from the deep wells wit bout a corresponding inereaseof friction, and that reouires no more power to operate in a well of Inn than in one of :A0 feet deep. It Huh None of the Objections Common to Lumps. It has no wooden tubing to wear out. decay and pollute the water. 110 iron tubing to rust, never has to Is-primed, packed or thawed out, and you do not have to pump out a pall of water to get a fresh, cold drink. It is Kutirely Free from Danger. Being provided with a self-acting break, governed by an eccentric, it Is impossible, should t he hand accidentally slip from the crank, for 1 he bucket to run down, lienee any child can handle It w ith perfect safety. I f the City Will Not Operate Waterworks and Kleetrie Lights. That it will he a good bmoiness move for Gaffney to vote the increa sed bonds fur waterworks and elec tric lights there can be no doubt. The Ledger is aware of the fact that at this time there ure two private individuals who will accept the franchise and (quip and operate both the electric light plant and water works if tiie city will grant it. Both these gentleman are business men and have ample means to carry out their plans should .hey be granted the privilege. But we are against any such idea. If private parties can make money out of the wuUr- works and electric light why cannot the city make money and thus lessen tiie tuxes of the pcop'e. We are against granting valuable franchises to private individuals or corporations to the detriment of the masses. Let Gaffney keep tier valuable franchises and use them to the best advantage. The only way to do it is to continue tho hmad and liberal policy tfiat has characterized the citizens of this place heretofore. By all means vote to increase the bonds. Charlotte let her waterworks fran chise to private parties. After operating the plant for lifted) years and making immense sums of money for the stockholders the city paid two times the criginui cost of the plant for the system and is now operating it with a profit to the city and less cost to the users of water.
