Me- Lemore Bros . have not determened what they will do but will remain in Gaffney for the present at least. Mr. A. N. Wood has purchased the Moses Wood 'ot in the upper part of the jily. This is one of the prettiest building lots in the city and when Mr. Wood’s house was destroyed by fire it left a vacancy that was felt by all. A charming little lady who is a warm friend of The Ledger, sent us two personals thnugh tho mail for this issue. We appreciate this thoughtfulness on her part and wish that others would follow her good ex ample. The county chain-gang is now at work on the I'nion road near Daw kins' Bridge. Next week they will he transferred to Guwdeysville town ship. They will go to White Plains township in three weeks. Wherever they go good results follow. In the bicycle race Friday after noon Will Surratt won over Will Darby. The purse was divided as per agreement, tho winner taking two-thirds and the loser one-third. An effort is being made to get up another race some time soon. The Knights of Pythias will give a banquet at Lipscomb^ Hotel this evening. Tim tickets are limited. The K. P.’s are a royal good set of fellows and the person who is not in the secrets of the orders but enjojs their good graces is lucky endeed. Monday morning as the local scribe approached The Ledger oflice ho observed a quiet looking indi vidual standing in the door, and leaning against the door frame was a gun. The first impulse was that there was some one after the local izer for the commission or omission of sin, hut the quiet looking individual proved to ho Mr. Joseph Vinson, a rather quiot and inoffensive citizen, and the gun was one that his grand father, Benjamin Vinson, had should ered in the war of 1812 for the de fence of ids country. The gun is remarkably well preserved. It was originally an old flint and steel gun but had at one time been changed to a cup and hall. It is a relic of wliich Mr. Vinson is justly proved and wo doubt if there is another one in tho county liko it. . (JiilTiioy vs. YorUvill*’. The Gaffney ball team leaves to morrow morning for Yorkville and will do their best to return home with the sculp of the Vorkvilleites dang ling from their belts. A good sized crowd will go with the boys for the purpose of rooting. Of course a pleas ant time is anticipated by those who go, and we are confident that the gay and festive throng will not he disap pointed, for Yorkville certainly knows how to entertain her guests.
