At a meeting of the Sp artanburg liaptist Association field at Poplar Spring Church on 23rd of August, the name of Cooper-Limestone Insti tute was changed to that of Lime stone College, and the entire school property was turned over to a self- perpetuating Board of Trustees of fifteen members to be held and oper ated perpetually as a college ior tiie entire State. It was further deter mined to raise and expend^lO.OlO more on the building, equipments, and grounds. Capt. John H. Montgomery of Spartanburg proposing to contrib ute ^.VOOO of that amount, provided the balance be raised. It is said by the friends of the col lege that if Gaffney city will make a liberal contribution, there will be lit tle difficulty in raising the money, and Limestone will be made the finest and most attractive place In the State. We hope the money will be raised, and we believe that Gaffney will do her duty by the college. Articles From Antioch. (Correspondence of The Ledger.) Antioch, Sept. —We have had plenty of rain for the past two weeks. The farmer’s have lost an abun dance of their fodder. Our school was out last Friday, and our teacher. Miss Kate Ratch- ford, left for Yorkville Saturday morning. We were all sorry when she left. There will be*a picnic at Antioch church on the 17th of this month. Everybody is invited with well tilled baskets. Mrs. Minnie Hughes, wife of Mr. 1). P. Hughes, of G»ff tey S. C , is at her father’.-, ntar Grover X. C., with typhoid fever. She is very low. Mr. and Mrs. Julian Lipscmb Arrived Last Friday Morning. Mr. »nd Mrs. Julian Lipscotnu. nee Noble, arrived in the city last Friday morning on the vestibule. The wedding took place at the home of the bride 8 parents, near Hurlock. MJ., on the eastern shore, Wednes day, September 7th at 2 o’clock in theiufiernoon. It was a quite home affair and witnessed by only a few friends and relatives of the contracting parties. The eermony was performed by Rev. Louis Oorkran, P. E., and a cousin of the bride. On the evening before the wedding a reception was tendered the young couple and their friends by the parents of the bride. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Lipscomb, accompanied by a host of friends, drove eight miles to Secre tary, where they took the boat for Baltimore. Tney went from Balti more to Washington, spent a day at the capital viewing the many places of interest around that beautiful city, and left Washington that night at 10 o’clock, arriving here the next day. A reception was tendered the young couple at Lipscomb's Hotel Friday to which only the immediate family of Mr. Lipscomb were invited. Mr, and Mrs. Lipscomb received quite anumber of elegant presents from friends in Maryland and South Carolina. The young couple have a host of admirers who wjsh them all possible success and happiness. -• — Marriages, Five. At the residence of the bride’s mothers in this city on Sunday. Sept. 4th, Mr. F. G. Guthrie and Hattie West were united in the holy bonds of matrimony in the presence of a number of the intimate friends of the contracting parties. Rev. T. M. Dent, of the Methodist church, officiated. On the same day at 8: 30 in the evening Mr. T. I). Daniel and Miss ‘.litchrl Goforth were wedded at the home of the bride’s parents in the presence of a large circle of friends. Rev. Mr. Dent officiating. Refreshments were served at both events after the ceremony. The contracting parties enjoy the privi lege of many friends all of whom wist) them well as they journey along lifea turbulent pathway. At the home of the bride’s parents on Granard steet on last Sunday Mr. Samuel A. Forter. of Blacksburg, ami Miss Xante Tbackston were united in marriage by the R.ev. B. P. Robert son, of the First Baptist Church, in the presence of relatives and a few intimate friends of the contracting parties. Mr. D. P. Bright and Miss Arminnie Pettet were united in the holy bond- of matrimony Sunday evening at. 8 o’clock by the Rev, J. W. Walker. The affair was quite and unpreten tious. Mr. Calvin Jolly and Mis; E. Davis, of Gowdeyville, was in the city last week. Mr. Davis is interesting himself in the erection of • telephone line from Gaffney to Gowdeyville via T. I). Littlejohn's. He has meet with considerable in- coumgeinent so far. His plan is a novel one. He proposes to tax the successful candidates to help build the line. Already he has received assurances of quite a neat litlle sum toward the project.
